I have been asked to help with this bear.
I have attached a photo dated 1953, of me and a bear which I received from relatives in Canada, and I am trying to identify the bear, which I do not have any more. Do you have any record of it, or know anyone who may have? It was probably made in China.
any suggestions
Oh! he reminds me of the ones I used to see other childern have,I know that his face is stiff like a plastic type.colorful in cheeks and had dimples, and his feet paws are made of soft leather hard material. This is when people used to say Hikiddo! to some they would meet or see. I wish I could remember but I was around ten when I saw these bear. You could ask Teddy Bear and Friends maybe they could help you since they do articules in older collectable bears. Sorry I can't help. But brought memories back
Hmmm,
I had/have a stuffed cat of that year that has a sewn on rubber face with a similar expression. It was made by the Gund company. THe problem was that the faces tended to peel and get oily. Despite that I kept mine since it was my first and favorite stuffed animal I guess that's where it all started!
Karen and the cats
P.S. Use- Rubber face stuffed bears- in the search box. I did a quick search and there's lots of leads. Another company, Rushton, also was making rubber faced bears.
Could it be made by Knickerbocker?
I've just had a quick look through my Teddy Bear Encylopedia. There are several bears in there with vinyl faces that look a bit similar to your bear - made by Gund, Knickerbocker and Ideal.
Check the antique bears section on ebay. I bet you'll find one like it. I've seen lots of very similar ones there.
I should think Gund would have been the most popular of the rubber faced bears coming from Canada. That's a really cute pic of you and your ted
I don't know the bear but had to say....cute photo
