For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
I normally donate a bear for a charity, normally towards animal rescue. i received this email and living outside the USA was wondering if anyone knows anything about it.
Will you share your talent with the families and children of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Albany, NY (RMHC) by contributing one of your very special bears for this year’s auction?
We have a wonderful event each year which enables teddy bear collectors to bid on a fabulous variety of artists’ bears. Thanks to artists from all over the world, over 100 hand-crafted teddy bears will be up for adoption, with ALL proceeds benefiting RMHC. For over 16 years, this beary special event has been an ongoing success and an integral part of the fund raising program of RMHC.
The 2007 Teddy Bear Banquet and Auction has been scheduled for Sunday, October 28, 2007.
Please e-mail us at teddybears@rmhcofalbany.org with your mailing address and we will be happy to send you our artist’s packet, which also includes information highlighting the many programs of RMHC. If you would like more information about RMHC or the Teddy Bear Banquet and Auction, please feel free to contact Lori Emery at 518/438-2655.
We truly hope that you will open your heart to this opportunity of sharing and caring for families and children.
Bear hugs and sincere thanks,
Jan Kurposka
Yes, its legitimate. They are a very organized group and I donated a piece once several years ago. There should be a website somewhere....http://www.rmhcofalbany.org/

Yes, this organization is real. They have houses, rooms and other facilities for families when a child is in a hospital. It assists with the high out of pocket cost many families pay when away from home during medical treatment.
This is a link to their main site. I think, not 100% sure, that you would be assisting a more regional program that assists the Albany NY area specifically.

Yes, I've donated in the past as have other bear artists I know. It's a very wonderful and worthy cause and the auction is very professionally run with great follow-up correspondence as well.
thanks for the input, will see what I can arrange,
Lynette
Absolutely legit . . . I've donated for several years and will again this year.
Yup, I've donated to them for years and years now. It's a worthy cause, if you can make a piece for them I suggest ya do it.
Me, too. Began donating about 12 years ago. Cannot for the first time this year - in the past the auction was held in Sept.
I received that email too - at first I thought it was for the Australian Ronald McDonald House until I read it was in New York!
It's a great charity.
Thanks for the post and the question....and all the answers! I received the letter also, and was going to call them to find out if it was legit......guess I don't need to call anymore!

Yes it is for real, is what I thought as well. Got one this week and called. Very pleasant to talk with. Bev
Me too, I wondered at first, but found it was all ready being discussed on Teddy Talk. I just love how you ladies have our backs
And my bear's gone out this week.
the ladies from the Amherst organization of Ronald Macdonald came up to Chester last week for donations..Sandi and i donated and several other VT artists support them too..i love Ronald Mcdonald charities! One of my personal favorites! deb
I also received an email but declined as my international charity work is mostly bear related.
I do from time to time make teddies for auctions to raise funds for Cancer patients and their families, but I am a great believer that charity begins at home so this is limited to The Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
I did however suggest to Jan to make an appeal to the American bear artists on http://www.teddy-talk.com thinking they would receive some help from home.
I think it is a worthy cause and deserves support.
Sandi because of my schedule, I had to decline , however I did offer one for next year. Shipping time from SA is going take time and I have my son's wedding on the 13th October.
I also suggested to Jan who sent me the email that she contact bear makers/artists via the TEDDYTALK FORUM.
It seems as thou the artists who have been supplying them with bears old and new to auction off have declined and they are now looking at other sources.

I've done the same, and even posted the appeal on here, but I think its been glided over. You're utterly right...charity hits home the closer to home it is. I have my own reasons for wanting to donate to a Ronald McDonald house this year, and I certainly don't feel like shoving any charity auctions down anyone's throat. Its got to be for the right reason before you fork over a lot of hard work, money, time and effort.
