Hi everyone,

My brother and his wife are due to have their first baby in November and I would love to make a cuddly soft sheepskin bear.  I have previously made  a bear from sheepskin style plush bought from a UK supplier (Bearcountry), but they don't have any of the nice colours left.  I have been searching and searching through google but can't come up with any suppliers of the actual fabric.  It is such a warm and comforting material that I thought it would be nice for a baby.   Any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated  bear_original

If you scroll down on the following message you will see the bear I have previously made with sheepskin style plush, just can't find this anymore..

Thanks Jeanie, that's sweet of you to look.  Ideally it would be a supplier in Europe as I'm based in Belgium and don't want to get stuck with import tax..  I am looking for the fluffier type, rather like your bear in your avatar in fact - is that mohair?

Hugs

Have you looked on ebay?  I've seen sheepskin pieces on there before.  Good luck bear_original

You might also want to look for ....umm...I think it was called 'kohair'??   A type of chenille upholstery fabric.  I have a teddy bear that was made in 1999, and its my sleeping teddy.  He's made from this type fabric, and he's still as soft as the day he came home.  Granted not as plush as the kind you made.  bear_sad    http://www.teddytech.biz/index.htm  This should give you an idea.  If you do a Google or yahoo search, you might be able to come up with EU suppliers

Catherine,
My avatar bear "Fonzie" is made from curly kid mohair. He's my 2007 raffle bear for a charity at the hospital I work in. I washed it in hair conditioner (a tip fromTammy...Beckoning Bears)....it is the softest, finest mohair I've ever touched. I would make a bear for a baby out of it.  Gentle, soft...natural...can't say enough good things about that mohair!!

Show us pictures when you make the bear!!  :photo:
