Hello
Has anyone here done a Art Degree?
I am so frustrated with my bears and myself. I have so many designs in my head and a new direction for my bears and art, but I am so frustrated, they won't come out.
I have the option next year to go back to uni and finish my business degree. OR Do what I love and take the love further. Doing a Art degree and majoring in sculpture and minor textiles. I want to make my bears and animals to look and move like real ones. I am busting with creative energy BUt I just can't get it out.
I would love to hear from anyone who has done a art degree, and I wonder if its a good direction for me.
I think the business degree will be a waste as now I have 4 kids, I don't think I will return back to work after my maternity leave is up Feb 2009.

Hi Peta
I never did an Arts degree - and always wish I had! Sitting sewing bears, my BSc in Geology seems a bit of a joke!
If I had the opportunity now I would certainly GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!!!

You have to try and follow what is in you heart Peta if it is possible in life.I am sure you will be much happier if you choose the art degree because it is what you really want to do.If only we knew in advance what things we would end up doing in life and in hindsight what choices we could have made-it would be so much easier!

Do it, do it, do it!!! (the art degree) Something that I think is easy for everone on Teddy Talk to understand, but difficult for non creative types is that creating is not something we like to do--it is something we must do--as necessary as breathing. Follow your heart!

Peta,
I opted for courses at the New York City Sculpture School. It really helped with designing realistic animals. I was interested in 3d work and not, particularly, in an art degree. I took courses for about three years, part time. IT was an excellent school and I found my sculpture teachers really enjoyed my unique niche of using classical sculpture to improve my soft sculpture skills. We are a unique branch of art and I think most teachers of 3d art enjoy teaching someone who is into soft sculpture. Good Luck! Yes, it is worth it.

I don't have an art degree but a degree in fashion design and I can only say that this is very, very helpful for designing bears as well. So, do your art degree if you want to do it and if you have the chance to do some classes in fashion design like pattern drafting or nature studies then you should do these, too.

First time throuGH  college I was a music major.

then i realized that the chances of supporting myself were a wee bit on the slim side...

second time through was nursing-I was able to support myself while continuing to do what I love.....

I think you should always keep your creative love a priority-

figure out how you can support yourself at the same time...

If you do not keep that need to create, do what you love, a priority, you will become frustrated and unhappy.

Its not a question of "when I have time"- if you have it in you, if it consumes you, then you must work harder at it-

"follow your heart"-every old woman who told me that also said that all else will follow .  So now I am the old woman-

follow your heart-the rest will come to you

TAMI This is so true, I MUST DO IT. I get really moody and edgy when I can't creat.
Thank you so much to every one. My bears are my niche, after years of trying different things. Eg: hairdressing, beauty, sales.
I will apply and hopefully get in. My stat test score is still valid. so that should help me get in. I am really excited.
Thanks again
