Some of you may have seen this cartoon in your local newspaper. The Dallas Morning News carried it a couple of days ago, and I thought it had a more profound message than just a cute cartoon joke. I certainly hope Hank Ketcham doesn't have any insight into the future!!
That would be horrid, poor Joey
Hmmm....I think the lead paint, lead jewelry charms, & rape date drug laced bead collections have pushed more parents back to "traditional" toys. I've been swimming in catalogs this holiday season and a good number of them are smaller toy companies with good old fashioned use your imagination traditional quality made toys. It's that childhood interest in a teddy bear "toy" that will keep future collectors of the art interested. Buying a little one a very special teddy bear might be the thing to do this year.
Makes me think of Janet's wonderful thread....imagine all of the children who will pass by her awesome display case this holiday season!!

Not with all of us around!!!
It does seem like many children these days prefer high tech toys, but I know a couple of children quite close to me--my eight year old son and my nine year old niece--who still find cuddly critters to be the best toys. Both of them collect, sleep with and play with them.
Sue Ann: I think teddy bears will only become extinct, if we stop making them.
Maybe you could send in a picture of your teddies to the Dallas Morning News giving reference to the cartoon.
Oh I hope not Sue Ann!
Hugs
Carolyn
Hmmmmm maybe all you bear makers better get busy....you could have more orders than you can handle
dilu
I have 10 bear orders waiting.....and it seems like I get more every day! I love it!!!
Teddy Bears will NOT become extinct while I'M Around.......I took one of my orginal St. Regis Cub Bears to the hospital with me, got several comments, and some took my web address......my bear made me feel better, (he talked me through a tough spot last night) and I think made my roommate feel better too.......After all, Teddys are the best medicine....Laughter (especially if it is an adult with a Teddy talking to it and hugging it in the hospital)
Let's keep Teddy Bears on the "healthy list"

Ellen, I think that's just great! I bet your teddy was a hit with the staff.
I hope not!
Isn't that column/cartoon strip being reprinted from the 60s - 70s??
Peek into the website listed along the side: while it doesn't say that H Ketcham has retired or died, I thought I remembered that he'd done both.....
