Posts: 2,203Anyone have any traditions or customs surrounding Christmas? It is getting far too comercial these days. We like to gather the family around the tree and put ordaments on. Each ordament or decoration usually has a story attached to it. Then we pull out all the christmas movies and make a night of it.

Posts: 1,836We have quite a few traditions from church to gifts, but one of my favorites is Christmas morning breakfast at my parents. My dad makes his "famous" super thick belgian style waffles that we top with fresh fruits, syrups and whip cream. We go all out with special order sausages and scrapple ( 
not my thing personally, but it's big in this area) from a local butcher. It's very homey and casual, but it's probably my favorite tradition.

We have our annual family christmas cake baking competition on the Sunday before Christmas...we all bake a cake and we have a blindfold tasting..and the winner gets a wooden spoon. We mark the cakes on the decoration too...it's very serious stuff...but we have been laughing about it all year. Recipes are top secret..even my brother enters a cake.
On Christmas eve we go out for breakfast..which I love since I stopped working Christmas eve about 10 years ago!
