While traveling to a craft show in the Eastern Cape we stopped over on our way home in a very very small town. It was delightful and reminded me so much of when I spent time in the Eastern Cape as a child.
We looked at a house that was very big and had lots of land but we felt it was not in a good position. We were then shown another house by the owners of the B&B we were staying at- and both hubby and myself were impressed.
We are looking at some offers and might just pack up and move away from city life. Its in the Karoo, so dry hot summers, and rather chilly winters. From the outside the house looks small but once in it was big. It has yellow wood floors, ceilings and doors. It also is on a large piece of ground and I would have to get two sheep to keep the grass short ( Can you have pet sheep ???) I could also have my own chickens and become a real farmer.
Here are some pictures
It looks really nice, peaceful and idyllic big sigh! Me and hubby have driven through the Karoo a few times on our journeys down to Cape Town, so remember it quite well. If you like the quiet life then I reckon you should go for it! A couple of sheep in the yard sounds good to me
I could do with a couple myself!

Oh, I'd LOOOOOVE to have pet sheep!
We moved from a good sized town to the middle of nowhere..... I don't recommend it unless you like to be a hermit and talk to yourself a lot! However, if you won't be too far from places like the grocery, pharmacy, a restaurant or two, etc. then you'll do just fine! Go for it!
It looks very peaceful and rural. I think I'd like to live in a rural area. Don't know if I could really adjust. Like Daphne says, a grocery store nearby would be a necessity. Other than that, I just need internet access and UPS delivery.
mmm the country air must have gone to my head as I posted this topic twice
Hubby has spoken to the sellers and we will put in an offer, we would not move till the end of next year as hubby needs to tie up his business etc, and of course the seller must accept our offer. If it comes about then it is meant to be, if not, well we can always explore other options.
I would still be able to travel and of course the shop will come with- its a very crafty area. Lots of ideas - one being that I would like to host a teddy bear/quilting course where students come and stay for a few days, We could sew in the mornings and then arrange some sightseeing trips in the afternoon.
Also lots of bird watching, and hubby could arrange hiking trips and mountain bike races- sounds like we could be busier there than where we are.

It looks fantastic, I hope your offer gets accepted. I would love to Travel to South Africa and come and take a course, have never been anywhere that far away before. Sheep in the yard sounds very nice as well, would they be safe though would you have wild animals that might attack them?
Good luck and keep us informed, maybe if all goes well we could have a TT workshop at your place in the future
.
Big hugs
Shane
Dear Lynette: that sounds so wonderful and peaceful. And yes, sheep and chickens are pets...why not buy a cow too. Go for the gusto girl and don't look back.....
I don't recommend it unless you like to be a hermit and talk to yourself a lot! However
   heehee... Welcome to my world.. heehee.
Looks like a very nice place though, very peaceful and quiet
Hugs!

it looks nice. I hope the sellers accept your offer. how far is this from your current home? how far would you be from your children?
We are wanting to go back and take another look now that we have the original plans of the house. It is a one hour trip to a very big town/city with a large airport. To Johannesburg it would take 4-5 hours, and to Cape Town about 6-7 hours.I would be based in between my two kids. We will also get all the history about the house which has always been known as "Geelhuis" afrikaans for "Yellowhouse"
Daphne- the local corner shop is there, butcher, hairdresser, and of course the internet and satellite TV is also available.
Shane- no wild animals about but I am sure we would have horrid ,horrid snakes, and other creepy crawlies that live in the bush. Although saying that living in a built up area we have found 2 or 3 snakes in our garden although they were harmless ones, one even had the cheek to come indoors.
I am very happy to do 2 or 3 International shows where I get my buzz the rest of the time living like a hermit is just fine by me.
As most bear fanatics I do talk to my teddies and of course my dogs- anyone from outerspace must just sigh!!!!
