I went on a field trip with my daughter's class today to visit memorial sites, museums and attend services commemorating the 90th aniiversary of the Halifax Explosion. This was the biggest man-made explosion in the world prior to the atomic bomb. About 2000 died and 9000 were injured when 2 ships collided ,one full of explosives, in our harbour. The explosion was felt over 200 miles away ! Tragically too, 2 days later came the worst snow storm the city had even seen. All this on a shattered city in burning rubble. The city of Boston , Mass. offered unconditional support and supplies so each year our city sends Boston the biggest Christmas tree as a thank you.
I have lived here all my life, but have never visited some of these sites or services just 20 minutes from my house. This day just touched my heart and made me stop and be thankful for my life. It was so sad to hear of the loss and the amazing survival stories, especially some of the children involved.

Past Time BearsVery interesting! You know, I don't remember learning about that explosion in my history classes when I was in school. Of course, it's very possible that I was in school soooooo looooong ago, that I just don't remember studying it. Glad you shared it with us.
