Dakota.JPGMy first attempt at needle felting, even though he was styled with fiberfil.

A good beginning and o'h the possibilities are endless.

You've got great 'style'! Your Look is definitely in evidence.

Downs breeds don't needle as firmly as other breed choices, but I think you'll enjoy the firmness that you can needle in: wool fiber goes past the springy stage that you experienced with fiberfil and will remain where you put it, instead of moving/changing shape as you handle it.

The degree of firmness will depend on the length of time spent needling: as a beginner it's too easy to stop too soon, thinking that you'll 'mess up or lose' a line or curve or depression you just needled in. On the contrary, NOT needling enough may lose the line, as it's insubstantial underneath and not giving a good, solid support.

Thank you for all your kind comments.

Dakota only took me an hour to make, kind of an impulse craft thing.

My daughter tackled a mouse and she didn't do too bad either for 13.

Now that just means I have to buy supplies.

Would love to tackle some more polar bears and some hands and arm for some new animals I have in mind for the new year.

  He's gorgeous! Such a fantastic first try. I love his face and his cute paws!
If you make more, I recommend a combination of Romney and Corriedale. They felt well and the Corridale is especialy soft for polar bears  bear_grin

He's really lovely!
