Imagine the scene on Christmas Eve ... Miss Santa Claus, with only an hour to spare before her big night out, decides to adjust the fitting of her little red number on my faithful Pfaff.  Mummy Claus (ie me!) is out visiting, so can't give advice and in the giddy whirl of tinsel topped Xmas preparations, thinks no more of it.

Switch to yesterday afternoon ... Mummy Claus, now back in her workroom, decides to sew up her latest design.  Calamity!  The machine is jammed more solid than quick drying cement and Miss Claus is out celebrating the new year in tried and tested fashion.  One toolbox full of surgical instruments and an hour of breath holding later, I have to face facts, it's terminal.  Well, if you consider being without your machine for up to three weeks while it's in for repair it is anyway.

Hmph.

So, the prognosis being what it is, I've had to buy a new one.

Yikes Paula!!
At least now you will have a backup machine - and the January sales are on!!  This happened to me once too and my machine had to be sent away.  I was so thankful I had a spare - I couldn't face the thought of having to hand sew everything for a month!!! bear_grin

Well, after taking the rather painful decision to flash the cash, I am now awaiting the arrival of a brand new Pfaff  (select 4).  This one comes with a few added extras, so will give me a bit more scope than the old one (which I've now worked out was getting on for 15 years old) and it also comes with some 'freebies', a nice set of threads, a lovely set of scissors and a bag ... yep, I'm a sucker for promotional gifts!  It should arrive tomorrow, so at least I won't be doing cold turkey for long!! bear_tongue

I can't quite bring myself to part with my faithful old busted Pfaff, so as my son has the day off today, he has been given a little 'project' to occupy him and is currently taking it to pieces to see if he can find the relevant part to replace.  (He's an engineer, so hopefully this shouldn't be too taxing for him! bear_thumb )

As for hand sewing, *shudders*, I think I may just have averted that potential threat ... phew!!!!!  bear_grin

My sympathies, Paula............from someone who has NEVER got on with a sewing machine - a consummate Luddite (or masochist???????)
Maybe something IS telling you to get on with the mini????????? But my so far one-legged polar bear is telling me that I should stick to MY style...........WHY do we do it????????????
And right now, a touch of "tennis elbow " is telling me to just go and read a book.............
