Some time back someone mentioned a silica gel that could be used as water. I want to make a bear that looks as if he is swimming- without getting wet.
Any suggestions
thanks
Lynette
Sorry, I'm a little confused. How exactly do you want the bear to look like he's swimming without getting wet? Do you want the bear to look like it is IN some kind of container of water? Or are you talking about making a bear that is wearing something that has beads of water on it, like a swimming cap or goggles?
The bear has to be shown swimming. He/she will be in a transparent container that must hold the "water" substance.Anyone looking at it must see a bear that is swimming. The contents of the container must look like water but must not wet the bear's fur.

So..... you don't want it to be set permanently into a resin material, which will 'set' clear and rock solid?
You've seen it as the water in the vases of artificial flower arrangements.
yip it could be something like what they add to artificial flowers- now what is it.

HI,
That stuff they use for flowers I have not seen for sale before, but I guess a florist whole sale place may be of use?
I have seen a water substance they use for dolls house ponds and I think sculptor's use it for mermaids and stuff, I dont know what its called or how much you could use it but a search for dolls house supplies may throw up something, I think it sets hard like plastic.
ohh a confusing one!
I've tried both the pellets you melt on the stovetop (MESSY!!) and the one that's already a liquid (OK). I'm still not satisfied totally with it: naturally, designing polar bears, I've got hundreds of ideas for bears & water. My problem is the amount of trapped bubbles within the needled fiber surface. I don't think it's as apparent in fabric bears, but I ran out out of experimenting time last summer and haven't returned to those experiments.
I'd start with Google: here's a sample under Liquid Resin:

and Liquid Plastic:

Check out Trengrove Studios, and call them for suggestions. http://www.trengrovestudios.com
Also, call Eager Plastics. They love it when they get artists with questions, because so much of their work is orders for construction equipment. They'll be willing to sit on the phone for hours with you. http://eagerplastics.com/
Hmmmm I have some stuff called "Scenic Water" here's a link to their website, http://www.deluxematerials.com/products … urist.html about halfway down you will see the scenic water.
Hope this helps

Once again the TT come to the resuce. Thanks for all the suggestions, I will look up all and then try experimenting to get the results I want.
It is for an idea that I have for a competition. Teddy Bear Scene magazine from the UK will be running a Olympic competition and I will be sending in the "Bear athletes representing South Africa in this year's Olympics" - so I have to go for a GOLD medal. Right now they are in training getting fit !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (unlike their trainer)
Many thanks for all the links

What a Great idea! Wouldn't it be great to have a TT (Summer or Winter) Olympics?
Bears representing our own countries participating in our favorite sports??!!
