I would like to purchase some nice quality synthetic fur, have been looking on the internet,
but have not had much luck, can someone point me in the right direction.
thanks
Tami I having been looking as well but they all seem to have the knitted backs, I have used these in the past and found that they stretch out of shape. I will be intrested to see where others buy it from.
I have spent a lot of time trying to find good places to buy synthetic fur and I found a couple of companies that sell good quality synthetic fur. I buy from a UK-company http://www.fauxthrow.com/ (They also have faux suede) - but a US-company would probably be less expensive with regard to shipping costs:

You can order free swatches from both companies. I have ordered from both companies and the fur is great quality (looks and feels exactly like real fur) and the ones I bought doesn't have any stretch. I always use iron-on stabilizer on the back just to be on the safe side but I don't think its necessary with this fur.
I haven't ordered from this company but they sell Tissavel fur (so does faux throw by the way..): http://www.prefurs.com/ (Tissavel is rather expensive)
I've only just ventured into the faux furs..........I bout some Tissavel from prefurs - expensive!
Then I stumbled across some on ebay - Ok this does have a knitted back, but it's pretty firm - I used Fray check just outside the sewing lines, and strengthened the joint areas, by glueing on a disc of felt - I've just finished a polar, which now needs to be photographed - will post him on the "outside the comfort zone" Challenge thread.
anyway - this fur came from Honeysuckle furs - website www.honeysucklefurs.co.uk , and her ebay shop is Honeysuckle furs. Mo (owner) makes amazing bridal wear and uses the fur for stoles and the most amazing full length cloaks - I would LOVE one - but - ?for walking the dog - WHERE could I wear it???????
I have to say that these "furs" are gorgeous

I'd say Prefurs has about the best quality woven faux furs consistently in stock. I do get some wonderful ones from http://www.baerenstuebchen.de/ in Germany, very good and quick delivery. I believe Probaer also has nice ones though I have never bought from them. Depending how long the pile needs to be you could try Sassy ..I had some of their shorter piles..it's very nice. I have bought from Edinburgh Imports too..but sometimes they can be out of stock of colours and styles I found so I don't buy from there much nowadays.
http://www.prefurs.com/10Browse.asp?cat … y+Tissavel Prefurs sells Tissavel which is WONDERFUL!! It's very high quality and lovely to work with for synthetic. They are in NYC.
http://www.edinburghimports.com/shoppin … List.asp#3 Edinburgh Imports sells fantastic synthetics as they cater to costuming and home furnishing industries too... very high quality and a great selection. Also in the US.

Hi Tami, Sassy's also has some really nice imported synthetic, and she sells it by the piece or half yard, some of it is Schulte and some is Belgian Tyber, the backing is not knitted, but woven with very little stretch. I also just got some from prefurs, but you have to by a minimum of 1/2 yard, which when you are just starting with synthetic may be a bit excessive but they do offer a nice sample pack.
