Those of you who missed the discussion on how our dogs feet smell like doritos or corn chips are wondering why on earth I'm even posting about such a topic! You'll have to start from the beginning with this thread: http://www.teddy-talk.com/viewtopic.php?id=21517

Well, I had Tucker at the vet yesterday (he's fine for a change - don't worry!) so I asked her why my dogs feet smell like corn chips. She got this big smile on her face and said "Secretly, I LOVE that smell!" LOL! (Sorry doc, it's not a secret any more!)

She said that it is indeed caused by the sweat glands in their feet... the ONLY place they sweat. The combo of natural oils and chemicals etc. in a doggy's body naturally emit that corn chippy, salty, yummy smell.

So there you have it.

And those of you who missed the first discussion...... we promise not to laugh.... go sniff your dog's feet... it's OK!! You aren't nuts! Or if you are, you are in good company! bear_grin

Perhaps what ever chemicals are inside the body that cause the smell when 'sweated' out were actually ooozing through the skin pores? Like when someone has eatten too much garlic or they are on certain medication... they end up smelling like it! I don't know. Just a thought.

bear_grin You go tell them Tucker! That was my answer to the smelly feet - that dogs sweat through their paws, brownie points to me!  bear_happy  bear_grin  bear_grin

bear_original Yes there are times when I miss the showing, the build up to it on the day and then taking part and if I did well then it was even better, there was just such a buzz and excitement about it all and of course you meet a lot of different people and you make a lot of good friends too (don't miss all the travelling and getting up in the early hours of the morning!). When I go along to a dog show which is held locally and I see bad handling and bad presentation of the dog - this is when I am put on a short leash by hubby as I want to grab the leash and the brush from owner and show them how  bear_grin Over the years I have shown and breed Old English Sheepdogs, American Cocker Spaniels and Lhasa Apsos all the hairy ones! I loved working on the coats and if I did well in the ring then all the hard work was worth while. They were all lovely dogs to live with as well.
Millie (Norwich Terrier) for a terrier has the most laid back peace loving temperament, loves everyone be it a 2 legged or a 4 legged person or animal - doesn't have a mean bone in her body - too friendly for her own good sometimes I think. Amy (Mini Dachs) is a bit more reserved but just as loveable and for a little dog has a lot to say at times  bear_grin The pair of them get on very well together.
