After all the excitement of the US TOBY's and Golden Teddy Awards, I thought you might like to hear that after flicking through my March issue of Teddy Bear Scene magazine yesterday, I noticed the UK 'Readers' Choice Awards' are now officially open and calling for entrants.  Closing date is 27th June 2008.  To enter this competition you either need to have a subscription to the mag, or you need to collect the required number of tokens from forthcoming issues.  Entries are welcome from overseas and are invited by photographic submission.  For further information please visit www.teddybearscene.co.uk

or if you live in the UK, you can pick up a copy at your local WH Smith!

Hey Paula, you wouldn't happen to know if you can change a postal address for the mag if you subscribe, do you?  I read it all the time at home but I can't gwet it in Durham's WHSmiths, so I need to subscribe, but my address'll be changing in July and I can't find any info on it on the site!

Thanks for this Paula. So as far as you know, get the mag tokens, or subscribe (tax deductable me thinks  bear_tongue ) and send a photo in. Even I could do that. It would be a good way for us competition newbies to start off. Do you know if they ever see the bear in the fur? I'd want to keep it anyway if it did get anywhere. Congratulation by the way!

Chloe, I think if you email someone at the mag, you should find at the information you need.  I emailed them when I moved house last year and have had no problems receiving my subscription at my new address.

Amanda, I think this would be a great competition for anyone who hasn't had a go before!  It's very straight forward to enter, doesn't cost anything beyond the price of the mag and they are very accommodating in terms of the pics they will accept (ie., it's not essential to have studio pics which can be time consuming and costly!  You will simply need good quality, uncluttered pics.)  The competition is judged purely on photographic entry these days (it used to be different), so no need to worry about posting your bear anywhere.

Also, the Editor gives an 'Editor's Choice' award in each category, which means that all the bears entered into the competition have an extra chance to win an award, even if they don't receive a nomination in the main categories.

Oh boy, subscriptions are $120 US. That's a bit too steep for me, especially with my non-existent advertising budget.

That's a shame Bobbie - I guess this is where the dollar/pound rate doesn't work too well for a subscription.  I wonder if it is possible to purchase the mags individually?

For anyone wondering, the UK cover price is £3.80 per issue in the stores and it only requires a purchase of 3 issues to gather the necessary tokens to enter if you don't have a subscription.

A UK subscription costs £37.50 and can be purchased by direct debit if preferred.  Full details can be found on the website at www.teddybearscene.co.uk

Overseas subs are always more expensive as they have to include the cost of shipping - and magazines are quite heavy, relative to their cost.  Also, TBScene is a monthly magazine, so you would be getting twelve issues.  I just checked the foreign subs rate for TB&Friends and it works out about the same, allowing for the fact that the US magazines are bi-monthly.

Perhaps, if you put the word out, there might be a TBScene reader who would collect the tokens for you if they don't want to enter the comp themsleves?

Christine

Hi Christine
I was going to suggest that............. I have already promised my tokens, but I'm sure those of us who subscribe would pass tokens on to those who need them.........

I pay for mine quarterly by direct debit as it spreads the cost.If anyone wants me to save the tokens for them just let me know.I am determined to enter a few competitions this year as I never seem to get around to it and this one is a good place to start

Yes you can get individual issues!!!   I think it's around $10 each, but still - $30 is a lot less than $120!

I have a subscription so I would offer my tokens to someone bear_flower ...although I guess it would be three months before there were enough to give away to someone? one in each issue? PM me if you want them!

Krista
