Peregrine.jpgAfter a disastrous couple of 'panda' days this week, I was wondering if I would have enough bears for the show on Sunday.  I knuckled down though and took the plunge with some antique mohair I purchased several weeks ago.  This fabric has been tormenting me because I was terrified to cut into it in case I messed it up!  It's between 80 and 100 years old, so I knew I'd need to get things right first time as there could be no calling suppliers for extra!!!

Anyway, by some miracle, I pulled it off and 16" Peregrine is now ready to face the public at tomorrow's show.  I have to say I am delighted with him.  I've used the beautiful antique German mohair for his body and have contrasted it with contemporary mohair for his head and paws.  To complete him, I have selected an antique gold coloured upholstery velvet for his paws and have used some beautiful vintage jet buttons on his tummy.  In keeping with his vintage feel, I have opted for matt boot button glass eyes.

Well, that's about it, I do hope you like him!

I am sure he will soon sell at the show bear_thumb
It can be addictive making older style bears as once you have made one the challenge is there to keep making each bear look that bit older and more authentic. Will we be seeing some more older type bears in the future now that you have got this far?

I can't tell you how pleased I am that you like this bear!  I really enjoyed making him and didn't want to let him go, but he found his 'special someone' at yesterday's show and the gentleman who purchased him was so lovely, I couldn't refuse him!  So, Peregrine has a wonderful new owner who I know will cherish him and I now have a yearning to find more very special fabric to work with. bear_original

I'm so sad I didn't get to see this little guy - i just love his simplicity.  bear_wub

I'd love to try some vintage mohair but I just don't think it would suit my style of bears.

It was lovely speaking to you last Sunday - one of these days I WILL save up the money to add another one of your wonderful bruins to my hug!

Thanks for popping in Gemma.  Sorry you missed Peregrine at Hugglets ... he was snapped up early!  The vintage fabric was really interesting to work with and as you say, I had to have a good think about how to use it in the best way because I think I might have ruined the effect with a more contemporary bear.
