Hi all, as a novice bear maker in a country with no bear-making tradition I know nothing about bear awards, competitions etc. So:

1) The bear awards - are they connected with shows somehow? Are the bears judged physically or only from photos? Which competitions are judged by artists etc. and which ones by ordinary people? Which of the competitions are international (so that I can participate)?

2) Do the competitions have their web sites (I didn't find many...) or do they advertise only in magazines? Could you recommend me some?

Thanks  bear_flower

Hi Iva, The competitions that I know of are in both the UK magazines
Teddy Bear scene is just starting to run its comp and you need coupons from the magazine plus the entry form, unless you subscribe
The other one is The British Bear Artist awards in November (this year), there is a section for overseas artists.

I think that quite a few of the shows do run there own comps but I am only just doing my first show at Nottingham so I don't really know about these

Hope this helps

Iva there is a competion coming up in Sydney http://www.sydneyteddybearfair.com/  you do have to have your bear here for judging. You will find all the information on the link. Melissa did have a photo competion but you have missed that one, but there is always next year so keep it in mind.

Sorry Iva for hijacking your thread, can I ask, are  there no other bear makers in Czech Republic, a pioneer bear_wub  Just thinking you could maybe get together with some others and start your own show bear_grin I know that there is alot of organisation invovled but if you just started small it could maybe grow bear_thumb

Sue, there is only one more here, she is called Magda and I think she is a member of TT, but she is not very active now I think. And that's all... I would love to start a show or something here but I would be the only person entered  bear_grin

Oh Iva a TRUE pioneer bear_wub

Do they have craft shows, you could always become "The Czech Ambassador for Teddies" bear_grin

On a more serious note both the UK comps start as being photo entries, maybe if someone is not using their coupons for Teddy Bear scene, they could donate them to the New Czech Ambassador

I'm not really happy of being a pioneer because I don't have anyone to talk about bears etc. here (only my husband  bear_grin ), I have to buy everything on the internet and the worst thing is that I've never seen some other's artist bear in real. So I don't have any idea on what to improve in my bears, how good they are etc.

Well at least I made some progress -- my bunny sold today on eBay, my first one ever sold! The price was quite low but never mind...  bear_noexpression

I can understand how you feel, I live in the fens and although there are quite a few brilliant bear artists around me I have not met any of them.

I had to bend hubby's arm to take me to a bear fair last august, I did find it rewarding and on a quality front felt that I would not be laughed out of the place if I had a stand there.

I can tell by your photos that you make your bears very well and they do look good quality bear_wub

As for supplies I buy all mine on the internet, even ribbons from America, you have to buy quite a few to make it worth while but the choice is so much better than what I have locally, and mohair is a ball of wool that you knit here bear_grin

Big congrats on the bunny sale, it is a really nice feeling isn't it that someone wants to own your creation
