I bought Adobe Photoshop elements a few weeks ago and trying to learn how to use it, and about ready to pull my hair out, when you use the Quick selection tool to cut out a image and paste it to another layer, I'm having way to much trouble trying to just outline the picture with the little dotted line, I see the (-) & (+) but I try to use those and then the dotted line makes another line inside the line, then jumps off the subject and goes around the whole picture, it can't be this hard, I'm doing something wrong...........HELP!!! bear_wacko  bear_wacko  bear_wacko  bear_wacko  bear_wacko

    Tami, I got Photoshop Elements 4.0 over a year ago and I still don't know how to use it.  Oh, I can do basic stuff with it, but not all the fancy, fun things.  I finally gave up and got Microsoft's Digital Image Suite Anniversary Edition.  The learning curve is not near as steep and I can do most everything I want to do with it.  Not to say that you won't eventually be a pro at Photoshop . . . I just didn't have the patience to stick with trying to understand the instruction manual.  Good luck.

Tami,
I have Photoshop elements 3 and I've had it for about three years and I don't think I have a Quick Selection tool.  I have a Magnetic Lassoo but that doesn't help you.

                               hugs,

Tami - I'm no more help than the others thus far but I AM bald from pulling my hair out over learning graphic software so I do sympathize. Sorry I can't help! Use the "help" thing if you haven't..... course that gets me more confussed cuz I don't know the right terms for things and it doesn't know what I mean by "thingymaboob" so takes me on a wild goose chase 'til I forget what I was trying to learn in the first place. bear_wacko

Good luck my dear!

Deat Tami,  I bought photoshop elements 6 too a couple of weeks ago.  I was pulling out my hair, then I went online and purchased a book called photoshop elements 6 the missing manual.  It is in the process of answering all my questions

I  have PhotoShop Elements (5, I think). I would love to know it's many uses. I worked through the book that came with it and, of course, it all made sense...until I finished the book and tried to do things myself. I know it does wonderful things...just look at the people on here use made great graphics, avatars, banners, etc.

So if you learn how to use it, please let me know.

hi Tami, I use photoshop cs9, but i guess it will be similar to the elements program. If you are trying to cut out a background see if you have a magic eraser tool. This will cut out most of the background for you, then you can finish off with the standard eraser tool and use the remaining image for layers ect... I have also tried other methods but this seems to work best for me.

Yes thank you, the eraser tool works tons better than that quick selection tool, and the directions tell you to use that to cut out a subject from a background!  bear_wacko  bear_wacko  bear_wacko  bear_wacko
