Oh.. that's sad Deb!  I do hope that Boyd's will weather through it fairly unscathed.  It IS a tough markey for collectibles these days!

Beary truly yours,

WOW! I thought that if any bear making company was doing well, it was them.... I sure keep them in business... I have over 80 of them!  (Yeah, a bit obsessed with bears)  bear_smile

They have a couple gals that are designing a couple... they were pretty neat.... I am more into artist bears now but my hubby gets me one every once and a while and I just recently visited the HUMUNGO Boyds store in Gettysburg...very neat!  I was a little disappointed to know - dont know why I didnt realize it before, but Boyds are made in china... in factories... I thought they were made in Gettysburg... bear_sad

I was really suprised when I got an email from them about declaring bankruptcy.  I just went to Boyds Bear Country in Gettysburg in August.  Here's the email I received from them:

Dear FoBs (this stands for Friends of Boyds, the club; I'm in the club),

You have always been an important part of our family here at Boyds...
and every family goes through good times and bad.  Because you are
our family, we need to share with you some important information.

On Sunday, October 16 Boyds filed a voluntary petition for
reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code.  We
wanted you to have this information from us first and to understand
what that means and what it doesn't mean.

This does not mean that Boyds is going out of business.  Actually, it
means the exact opposite.  Boyds intends to continue to make bears
and friends for a very long time.  What this filing will allow us to
do is to "catch our balance" in these challenging times, reorganize,
reduce our debt and strengthen our financial position.  Our goal is
to emerge from this quickly in the best possible position for growth
and a long and healthy future.

What this does mean is that Boyds will continue our daily business
operations.  Bears will be shipped to your favorite stores as
promised, the Spring 2006 line is on its way here, I'm heading
overseas with my team to finish Fall 2006 and life will go on.  If I
didn't have great confidence that Boyds will succeed, I would not be
writing these words to you right now.

Most of you have not had a chance to meet or get to know Jan, our CEO.
So I will share with you that she is the most honorable and the
hardest working leader Boyds has had in a very long time.  The trust
that the management team has in her leadership is unshakeable.  No
one is ever proud to have to go through this process.  As I said,
every family has its tough times.  But families that are honest with
one another and supportive during the rough times emerge stronger and
closer than ever, and that is what I believe will happen here.

Sometime ago you, our family of loyal collectors, discovered a bear
(or two) that made you smile.  Your love of those fuzzy friends made
Boyds.  We thank you for loving our bears and we promise that with
your continued support we will be making fuzzy friends for many many
years to come.

Bearhugs...Liz (I'm pretty sure she is the VP of stuff)

Big WOW!!  Never expected Boyds to have to file Chapter 11!!!  bear_shocked  bear_shocked  I have a bunch of their bearstone figurines, but quit getting them a few years ago because I ran out of room to display them.  Oh my . . . how depressing!  bear_sad  bear_sad  bear_sad
