Berta Hesen-Minten (and DH Leo) will be exhibiting in July in San Jose California and then at the same Saunders Village Ohio show that Tami attends.
But they'll be flying in and out through Chicago's O'Hare airport - 8 miles from my home!!
We've got an extra day in her schedule beforew they return to the Netherlands and have planned a very special workshop for any list member who would like to attend!
The workshop is just less than 3 months away!  At present, we have 4 interested students. There are just 6 remaining places.

On Tues, 5 August, we will be 'In Class with Berta' from 9 AM to ??, here at my dining room table. She's designing a special combination class for us - Crochet and Oya Lace!
This will be the first time that she is sharing her knowledge with us, that she traveled up to Amsterdam to learn, and is part of some of her award winning bears this year.
For all I know, it's the only public Oya Lace class being taught in the States!

If you're interested in only the crochet, I'm sure your project will look wonderful without the second feature, as it's most likely going to be presented as an accessory or embellishment.

In seeing Berta demonstrate Oya here and having the printed information to take home, you'll be able to continue to explore its possibilities on your own at home.. From the pictorial info Berta has sent to me, and in trying it myself, it feels a lot like Tatting, in that it takes many words to describe but seeing the steps performed in person takes just a few minutes. It's worked along the edges of fabric or over threads with just a needle and thread!

At this point, Berta's workshop will be $80. All motels have buffet breakfast nowadays though we'll have (a better!) Breakfast available here, as well as Lunch & Supper.

On Wed, 6 Aug, I'll have a Needle Felting class, project TBD, depending on the skill level of the students, from Beginner through Advanced.
As I have no travel fees involved, I'm asking only a contribution for food, about $30:
Breakfast, Lunch and Supper will be provided on Tuesday and Breakfast & Lunch on Wednedsday. We'll probably go out to supper on Wed, for those not leaving Tues or Wed night.

Anyone staying on into Thursday will be squired around into Chicago or visit my favorite bead shop/fabric-quilting shop, etc... or whatever you've always wanted to see in the Chicago area.

Don & I have 2 cars (Honda CRV & Odyssey) and will shuttle everyone back and forth from O'Hare airport, about 8 miles away, to the motel and to our home for class, after we return from the Ohio Doll & Teddy show that Berta is exhibiting in, late on Monday afternoon and when you are departing to return home.
If you're arriving Monday evening, we'll be ready to go to the airport as soon as we unload our Ohio trip stuff! I have to plot out the travel time but I expect we'll arrive back home late Monday afternoon.
You may rent a car if you wish but we can accommodate 12 people total between the 2 cars. 8 seats are now filled.

More on this and the motel choice later (I SO wish I had a large enough home to host you all!!!) We are looking into getting motel prices and possible discounts.

Hggzzz,
Bobbie - and Berta

Bobby,
it's Sauders Village, like Sauder Furniture...it's the town where it's made.  Info can be found at www.saudervillage.org  I love the place!  If you get a chance at the show, make sure to do the "tour" of the Village.  You name badge gets you in!

Can't wait to see you!

Hooray! More bear artists for Sauder Village! It is a great show and very well attended by collectors and, because of the Sauder Village attraction, I found there were a lot of visiting people coming just to see what a Doll and Teddy bear Show was was all about too. Great for educating the public!
I'll see you gals there!

Of COURSE! Leeann! I was concentrating so much on whether or not there was a 'u' in it, that I never even noticed the 'n'!
That word always reminds me of Pooh stories....

Leeann, I first met you in KC a decade ago; with Tami it'll be a first. Any other TTers there??

A "decade" ago....geesh, that sounds soooo much longer than 10 years!!  lol  Myself, I've done the show for about a "decade".
For any doll collectors, Robert Tonner is the guest doll artist.  He designed the April character from my very favorite comic strip "For Better or Worse".  I was very fortunate to meet the creator of the strip at IDEX in San Franciso, she came for the show when Bob debuted April.  A very nice lady, and she also liked my work, too.  A very nice compliment to both our works.
hugs,
Leeann
