Is there a easy answer to this question?My brother inlaw would like to know what the format is behind a banner to make it work so we can have anther web sits link to us as he is only new at all of this web stuff ,but he is picking it up very fast can any one helphe knows how to get a banner but what goes behind it is it the same of every one and just change the name.?

Just save the banner for web use at 72dpi in .jpg format.  The banner creation part isn't the tricky part; that's just an image, like any image; photograph, etc. 

The tricky part is linking it to other sites, which must be done using html coding, which is somehow "attached" to the image of the banner.

So, just have him make a graphic image for your banner.  And then, those who link to you, by allowing their visitors to click on it, will write html coding into their website programming which directs that particular <click> to YOUR website.
