hi everyone bear_original
okay, I have a problem. I want a more realistic leg and paw for the cats and dogs etc... so you can see more details with the toes and paws. I have sketched and drawn so many patterns and can't seem to get the look I'm looking for bear_wacko Some advice and tips would be so helpful!!

Brenda look at pics of dogs and cats. I did a class on realistic polar bears and we had to draw the pattern parts  from the pictures by out lining the different shapes. I look at different animals when they are standing to see what the shape of the legs are. Two books I found useful are , How to draw animals by Jack Hamm and the other one is Drawing animals made amazingly easy  by Chirstopher Hart. Hope this helps. I know what you mean as I had worked on a cat that I kept on changing. Never did put him or her up for sale. I may post a pic ...... have to say you cats and dogs ar really good.

Thank you for that info! I do have books from an art course I took but never bothered to look in them for this reason:lol: These other books, can you find them in Chapters? I can sketch animals quite well but when it comes to making them into a more detailed pattern I'm confused! Thank you too for the nice comment about my cats/dogs bear_original

Im not sure but it wouldn't hurt to check with them. What about doing a leg from modeling clay that you can get from any craft store and then try pattern draping, taking scrap fabric and pinnig together the piece along where you would want you sem line to be..... then draw the line to make a pattern piece and cut it out adding a seam allowance. It would be like taloring the fabric to that shape if you know what I mean. This plus needle sculpting shoud help.  Brenda I was down to Medicine Hat this summer to see my kids and grand kids and I should of looked you up.......I will be out again and will have to get in touch with you. Do you know if there is going to be a bear show in Calgary this summer?

Hi Lynn,
I haven't heard of any bear shows in Calgary this summer or any other so far, but please do if your in the Calgary again to contact me [I'm about 2 hours south of Calgary] I think I will try the clay thing and draping fabric over it and see where that takes me. Thank you for all the input! bear_original

Sounds like a plan Brenda. Good luck and maybe some else would like to share some ideas.
