Like Australia and I guess the US, it's hard to imagine that these quiet little towns (now) were bursting at the seams (pun!) with people in the good 'ol Gold Rush days. There are many little towns in my state in Australia where gold mining flourished in the 1800's - now they are quiet little backwaters where tourists visit and try their hand at gold panning. To visit is like stepping back in time - incredible!
