How much stuff, i.e., mohair, synthetic (whatever you prefer), jointing stuff, eyes, etc. do you keep on hand?  I've been buying a bit of mohair and really in the big picture don't have much but am curious how much you keep on supply...you know in case their is a sudden world supply problem.

Thanks!

Funny you should ask this LOL I have tons of ribbon, a lot of mini fabrics, a lot of synthetic plushes... and a little of mohair... I HAVE TONS!   Also, I have tons of eyes, beads, embroidery thread, super glue, fray check, I could make tons of bears!

I probably have enough mohair of different types and colours to make about 10 medium sized bears plus enough mohair scraps to make at least that many mini bears. Then there is the smaller bin of rayon for mini bears plus a bin of luxury furs. I try to keep at goodly supply of all the sizes of discs on hand plus the cotter pins. I get nervous when my eye supplies are down to 2 pairs per size. I have many little bins of odds and ends plus ribbons, etc.
Needlefelting: large bin of roving and wools in different colours. Lots of needles - I bought a large supply on eBay.
Crochet: goodly supply of threads for the small crochet bears. (only made 2 so far) so many projects...so little time
Sewing: many bins of different materials. lots of threads.
I feel rich whenever I go into my sewing room and gloat over what I have.

Oh you made me remember, I have a lot of printed fabrics and "quilt" fabrics, a bolt of muslin (probably 15-20 yards left), lots of feathers, lots of needle felting "fuzz balls", needles, lots of crochet needles, yarn, thread... lots of acrylics, about 40-50 prisma colored pencils, a 10lb box of polyfill, 15 lbs of polyfill pellets

WOW, i have a lot.... but I just ordered more yesterday!  Oh sheesh!

Getting out the camera......
No, it's dark and rainy today... wouldn't work!
I have oodles (my favorite word!) of everything! You name it!
If I don't have what I need my very dear bear artist mentor is 20 miles away and she'll have it!
Mohair: Oh, 20+ yards total
Synthetic: 15 yards... but I'm putting most of it on eBay soon!
Ultrasuede: The pile is 11" high
Felt: That pile is almost as high
Joints:I could be high the rest of my life. OOooops! I mean... I could make an army of bears!  :D
Ribbon: I could tie a bow around the earth!
Now, quilt fabric is a totally different story! That stash is beyond calculation! I'll never use it all and feel kind of selfish having so much. But ya know, I never have the color I want! Go figure!

I'll take a picture soon of my studio. I've been meaning to anyway as it's the 1st room I've ever altered or painted. It's very nice to own your own home. But it's an easy way to show all i have

Okay, so keep in mind that I'm pretty new to bearmaking.
I have a bin that I can fit into and close the top. It's FULL of mohair
I have a smaller bin that would fit about 12 pop cans, that's full of pawpad and mini bear material.
Hardly any ribbon, anyone selling a lot of ribbon or something??
Lots of joints, cotter pins etc.
TONNES of eyes
More poly clay than I'll ever use
And a lifetime of fabric!!! My poor grandparents no longer have their drapery/quilting business, so I inherited all the fabric. If you guys ever need drapery material............
Isn't collecting this stuff half the fun though?? I sure think so.

Daphine, you DO have alot!!! LOL

I have piles of the stuff...but now I have a new rule...I don't buy any more of one fabric than I can make two 15" bears from...because I am sick of having loads of stuff that I now don't like anymore and ending up putting it on eBay.

Mmmmm....me too!!!    I have stuff in my lounge (hidden in 2 chests), also my understairs cupboard is FULL of my stuff.   My dining room is my workshop too, so you guessed it, we hardly ever eat in there as it's chocca!!   I also have stuff in a chest of drawers in my bedroom, not to mention BAGS and BAGS of fabric in the loft AND in the garage!!

Woohoo, reading this makes me feel much better about my stash!.  I have one  bin of mohair which is mostly comprised of scraps, and 4 photo boxes of fabric - one of vintage upholstery fabric, one of regular mini fabric, one of ultrasuede, and one with a few bits of miscellaneous fabric.

I need to go shopping!  Thought I was going to be able to buy more but my auction just closed and my bear didn't sell...again.

Oh, but ribbon and lace I have a suitcase full of...and a bowl of wool for mini knitting.  I inherited a  lot of vintage lace and trims.  I've gven away most of it but still have  a ton left!

Mind you, I am not counting any of the stuff for my other crafts!!!

Maybe we should do a supply swap too! LOL wow... and I forgot to mention that I have a tote (that is 3'X2'X2') filled with real fur also... and a white rabbit fur jacket that is so purty and I would never wear it but It makes me sad to think of cutting it up... geez, I feel like a pack rat!

Melissa - so sorry to hear that your little guy didnt sell.... maybe he is waiting for me to buy him bear_original

Oh yeah,
Two big plastic totes full of wool for felting and those dreaded fur coats in the cellar. Hopefully some little critter is nesting in them so I'll have a good reason to throw them away. I discovered another plastic tote full of synthetic fur down there too. More eBay stuff!

Sue Ann, can I come over and just PLAY in your stash! Hee Hee!!!  bear_grin I'll clean it all up afterwards!

And yesterday I just won an auction for 16 pieces of 9X9 vintage rayon and a week or so ago I won a couple auctions for various synthetics, "pooh gold", pink, "koala," grey, white and leopard spots... all are about 1 yrd each!

Daphne . . . oh sure . . . please do come and play in the mohair - but you'll have to share with the cats and the baby possum I found LIVING in there about a month ago.  Well, not the possum because we caught and relocated
it, but the cats do like to make a total mess out of the closet.   bear_rolleyes  bear_rolleyes bear_laugh  bear_laugh

Blimey - i thought i was bad but you lot have LOADS more than me

I only ever have enough to fill my rather large clothes airer - which is still quite a lot but not too much.
I found that if i have too much mohair i can never make my mind up what to use for a particular bear - and being a simple soul i gets all confused and have to go and lie down with a bar of choccy

Wish i had a mountain of mohair though - it's so tactile don't you think?

Oh no...I'm obviously WAY behind....I'm not even in Penny's league.  Penny dear, you crack me up.  I'm afraid I'm the same way...I can't decide if I have too many choices...I want to do them all at once.  I do however have a load of mini fabrics & supplies ...not sure how I did that...cheaper I guess.

Daphne...let us know when you put your next stash on Ebay...I may want to pilfer through your cast offs.

Not so much as most of you.  I keep mohair around for probably 5-6 bears, an assortment of felt and ultrasuede, lots of potential accessories, eyes, threads, etc.

Hmm I think that I am in the hoarding league - I have a bear room - not a work room cos I make bears in the livingroom ( maybe you would call it lounge) anyway the bear room has a nine drawer chest with mohair in 8 of the drawers - the last drawer is some mini mohair - Then I have a pine chest full of stuffing and of course the big box I just boought the other week about 12 kgs - Then I have the 3 boxes two linen baskets and a couple of drawers downstairs with assorted faux and mini fabric - then I have m;y work trolley which has tools, thread, perle cotton, ultrasuede etc in it (it is only 2feet high) Then I have another 9 drawer chest which has fabric - velvet through cotton through fleece through oh and I have a merchant chest (12 drawers ) stuffed with ribbon, buttons, hats, dolls house accessories, beads, pendants, and to cap it all there are the other 1,2,3 oh can't count any more anyway boxes on the living room floor with things like joints, eyes, bits of bears I dont like, cut out bears, patterns, pens, postage items ..........................
I think I hoard too much - and I just could not resist that little bargain piece of fabric on ebay yesterday or the box of faux sable scraps from fabulous furs the other day - okay so I figure I should be able to make maybe a lot of bears with this lot and after all ......................
No the truth is I am a hoarder and a bit of a compulsive buyer when it comes to fabric.
Hangs head in shame
Oh well better go and sew another bear or two - lots of stores to use up
Oh dear was this a bit like bearing  bear_grin bear_grin my soul
