Gee girls, you have too much mohair, like Shari - you can send me some!

My hugggggge storage box is chockers full with mohair...  However, my mum and sister were trying to talk me into getting another box.. but I was strong LOL  Thing is, I would want to fill that box right up if I were to get it LOL

I have heaps, but gee, not as much as it sounds like some of you have!! Give me a year or two though, I might be able to match or beat the best of you LOL

Ah Darlin,

I could work non stop from now until I die and I am not sure I would use it all up.

My excuse, ever so clever I believe, is that I live so far away from Anything that I need to have Everything on hand.

Hey, it works for me.

I can't go bobbing into a Micheals, or JoAnns, or Walmart or Intercal

So if you have the supplies on hand to make the bears and gollies then you have to have the stuff on hand to dress and accessorize....right?

And Ribbons and laces are all part and parcel

plus when ever I am offered an inch by the darling Hubs I run the whole 9 yards.....

Plus, there just about isn't anything you can't find in the internet if you look hard enough- and

what was the point in memorizing my Visa number if I can't rattle it off frequently so I don't forget?

Right?

How much in my stash?

Probably too much.but what if we get snowed in?

What if there is an embargo on all mohair coming from Europe?

(Yikes-  now don't have nightmares girls-just and example?)

What if I get a commission and need to get started right away?

Well, what if indeed!

I don't know about you guys, but I feel more secure with certain things tucked away

World Supply shortage indeed

I have enough rovings to keep Neysa, Kim and Kim and Judi and me busy 8 hours a day for probably 3 months.

Is that too much?

And then I discovered vintage Rayon, what a month ago?

Thank you by the way- ladies on the mini forum

and then my new best friend Sassys Fabrics.....

Which necessitated buying more eyes from Intercal

oh my goodness!

Its just like when we were kids and we told a lie....

and then another

and another

and another

its just the same-one thing leads to another........

You know how when somebody starts talking about food and you get hungry?

my fingers want to go shopping

must be good

can't blame it on the gollies any more

I have a bunch of lovely fur coats I need to sell - CHEAP - before baby comes. I am not going to ever get to them in the next 5 months and I can't store them with the baby on the way. I might have to offer them to you gals cheap before I try them on eBay!  bear_grin

I do not feel so bad now as I thought I had way too much in my Bear supplies department.
Denise you are going to be very busy - thanks for sharing your photos.
I think that we must all have something in common though - the hoarding bug.

Carolyn,

It is not possible to have too much-

it is possible to be content with enough

I don't think I have reached total contentment yet

I think the question should be rephrased. How much is too much??? I have a stash in the garage (four large containers), one under the bed, one in the sewing cabinet in the dining room.
In our other house I had a room, before we moved my husband went in the room and told me Half of it goes! AAAAHHH!
I did it though now I think he regrets it because as soon as we got moved I just went and bought more!!! bear_grin bear_grin bear_grin

bear_shocked bear_shocked I'm shocked and appalled, girls! It's all too clear that I'm seriously mohair-deprived!!

Mind you I'm just a beginner, so I've only got two garment racks full of fur coats/jackets/collars in the cold room (my kids call it "The Way to Narnia"), a 6-foot sideboard drawer full of mohair, two 3-foot drawers full of synthetics. I've only got a small drawer of eyes, another of nose/mouth threads, another of disks, and a middle sized drawer for wire, weighting supplies and safety joints. Everything is jammed in so hard that I can barely open the drawers, but it still doesn't hold a candle to a real bearmaker's stash.

If anyone would like to advise my husband that I need more, just drop him an email at John.Baird@utoronto.ca.  :)

Hey Shari, I think that is a great idea.  You could do all your shopping in one place- online. I'm sure your family would gladly share their new present with you.

Eileen, if I thought you were remotey serious i would send your hubby an e-mail

or you could print up this post and then say

"But everybody else gets to buy more....."

Do you have kids at home?  Don't do it in front of them-then they will forever be in competition..... :D

Shari you do need to go shopping

As stated before, I presently have enough mohair to make me feel comfortable but my friend is coming back next week from Germany for a visit and she went by the schulte mohair distributor for me so I'm getting more!!!!!
You really can't have too much!

I wished we all lived on the same block. That way we could play with all that mohair, and swaps, including scraps would be very easy!!!

johnson_by_reynolds.jpgbear_ermm Food for thought, Dilu. Thanks!  :rose:

The problem is, I've spent the last 28 years lecturing my kids with the usual, "You don't need that just because everybody else has it. If everybody else jumped off a cliff, would you follow?"  Obviously, I should have thought ahead.

On the other hand, John is your typical frugal Scot. I might be okay if I can show him how much I'm going to save on sale mohair. And given all the time I spend on bears, I could show him how much I've saved on cleaning supplies, electricity for the iron and vaccuum cleaner, laundry detergent, etc.

He's suggested that I make a Samuel Johnson Bear. I think (or I've decided that I think) this means he wants one for Christmas. This means some serious shopping, right?
