For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
I am in need of advice
I am just about to list in my new Teddy Patch store (see the post on "My two cents worth")and have come up with a poser
When listing it gives me the option of which currency to list my item in, so I was wondering what do I choose. My collectors are slit between US and UK collectors and I wouldn't want to frustrate either, so not sure what to do
Advice greatly recieved
I have the same delimma.
E-bay I listed aussie dollors but on bid4bears I have gone for us dollors????
Sue, the GBP is your best option - Paypal charges are really high for conversion, as Melanie said. Any way that saves you money is the best way.

Brenda
I am really sticking my neck on the line here!
Personally I would give your customer base more thought and consideration ... where is your larger customer base?
If you mainly sell to a UK market ... GBP
US market ... US
Aussie market ... AUD
Perhaps if some artists thought a little more about their customers, rather than themselves, they may find their customer base would increase.
Do you realise how selfish you may sound to the collectors reading these posts!!!
This is not said with malice and not directed at any particular person...and definitely not at at Sue who asked a very valid question.
Well Sandi, there are only three of us that replied, so which one of us are you directing at. In todays economy, keeping business expenses down is paramount to survival, and we all know how high Paypal fees are, so how are our replies deemed selfish? Our customers ARE important and I appreciate every one of mine but making bears is a business. Your advice was valid, and we've all discussed how things are misinterpreted, but it's hard to misinterpret your second last paragraph.
hugs,
Brenda

Brenda, my post wasn't directed at anyone in particular...it was a general comment.
This forum is for teddy collectors as well as artists and I think some replies would be better made through a PM. Too often we forget about the people viewing this forum...and make comments from an artist point of view only.
To some collectors, comments made about business matters, may come across as "some artists are only thinking of their own pockets".

Sandi,
This comment is directly about what replies were given here - there is no other way to interpret it.
I totally disagree with you - this is exactly the place to discuss things like this. If our customers understand why we choose to list in certain curriencies, they will understand we are doing what's right for our business and no other reason.
Hi Sue,
As a bear "collector", my currency converter is very handy. I browse for bears on e-bay UK and personal web-sites ......have no problem with the conversion. It only takes a second. Maybe list a link for a currency converter for your customers....or even invite them to ask you about it?? That can be positive for sales!
Hugs,
JeannieB
Jeannie, that's a great idea!
I'm going to try to sell more from my website next year...I'll be sure to include a currency converter link since most of my collectors are international.
