These pictures were emailed to me a few weeks ago and they made me catch my breath. I could not even imagine seeing these in the real.
Amazing, Fran!
Eileen
Wow! Wow! Wow! What fantastic pictures. My daughter got me to save them for her.
This picture is of a morning glory cloud. The Gulf is the only place in the world where this meteorological phenomenon - a rolling cloud up to 1000 kilometres long, stretching from horizon to horizon - occurs with predictable regularity from September to November. From the front, the cloud, one to two kilometres high, appears to roll backwards as it advances across the Gulf at about 40 kilometres an hour.
It gets its name from its arrival time on shore, at dawn, near the remote community of Burketown in western Queensland.
A Morning Glory cloud is mathematically known as a solitary wave - a single crest that moves without changing its shape or speed. In the Gulf, the humidity is just right to generate this impressive phenomenon."
Jane
Jane love your pixs ,these photos of nature are amazing.
WOW!! I'm assuming the 'Gulf' you are referring to is NOT the Gulf of Mexico!!!
Blimey Jane - that is just soooo unreal! How Fabulous :teddybear:
Yes, Danni - i am a scaredy cat. Never used to be scared of anything but i got wiser as i got older and now hide under the stairs whenever there's a thunderstorm - i used to hide under the bed but the dust bunnies scared me off he he he
