I ran into my first issue sewing.  I was fitting The pieces together and some were alright but others would only fit if one piece was on the wrong side and the other had fur facing up.  Any suggutions?

Are you sure you cut an opposite for each piece?

That sounds like it is the issue.. you need the following.. i am going by my patterns

four arm pieces, two regular, two reverse
four leg pieces, two regular, two reverse
two head pieces, two regular, two reverse
one gusset
two foot pads... both of mine are the same shape so they are both the same
two body pieces, one regular, one reverse....

ears are four of the same...

Oh Jenn!! Sorry Hon! It does sound like it may be the way the pattern was layed out. For each piece there is always an opposite piece. But dont feel to bad because we all have many experiences as you have had when starting to make bears. Just remember every piece with the exception of the muzzle insert there is an opposite piece. Well I guess it depends on the pattern.  bear_tongue Also make sure when laying out your pattern the fur nap is in the right direction.

Jen,
Does sound like you forgot to reverse some of the pieces... DON'T let this discourage you!  I find that I still sometimes do this when laying out patterns, esecially if I am trying to lay out a pattern with screaming kids in the background!  It happens.....

I've done this! And it's very annoying when you come to sew them up.... Do you have any spare fur you can cut the extra pieces from.

I once lost an ear too, months ago. Then when I was rifling through my stash the other day it fell out onto the floor. Goodness knows how it stayed hidden for so long!

I had all pieces but I think what confused me was the "reverse"

I am chuckeling a wee bit here Jenn.....for two reasons

yes, we have all done this....at least once.  And some of us, who don't learn well, well we do it more than once.

Is this your first bear, honey, cuz if it is, it'll be ok.  Even if it's your 10th...

Do yu have more fabric?

Here are some of the ways I have solved this problem:

1.  used another fabric:  to give it a patchwork type look
2. (my preferred method) resize the pattern pieces so that I could recut on a slightly smaller scale but still be able to get all the pattern pieces cut out correctly.

I'll bet some others have options for you too......

Hi Jenn,

What a pain in the bum !!!!   :(

I did this a few times when i started bear making and fortunately i had enough mohair to cut more pieces in reverse.

The only advise i can give is to mark the pattern pieces in BOLD HIGHLIGHT to cut a REVERSE - this is what i did and it worked and i'm pretty dumb so it should work for you no probs Jenn

I do feel for you but i also praise your courage for coming on here and admitting it and asking for advise - you're gonna do well with the bear making Jenn - i can feel it in my bones

Like everyone else - been there done that - I still have to count and double check that I have the pieces right...
