Hi there,
Don't know if anyone else has this problem.... I use locknuts and bolts and sometimes the stuffing coils around the locknut when I turn the limbs. One time, when I was just beginning making bears I sewed up all closings on the limbs and discovered this problem. I had undo all the ladder stitching and fix it.
What I do now is, 1)screw on the locknut, 2) insert the bolt and washer onto the disc, 3) then I glue a piece of fabric over the top of the disc and locknut. This prevents any stuffing from touching the locknut.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, I hope this tip is useful to someone.

Hi Robert,
Are you talking about a locknut or a screw set (where you have to use the Allen Key to put the nut on) ?
I've had problems with stuffing getting caught in the bolt when I use the screw set (Edinburgh sells this kind.
If it's a locknut problem then it sounds like the joint in spinning in the limb when you are putting on the nut. My recommendation would be to try and hold the joint as you first put the nut on the bolt until you feel it stop spinning.
If the problem is with a screw set bolt, I have found that I can only go so far with the allen Key , they I switch to my ratchet . But be careful when you use the ratchet as again you can only go so far until you feel the bolt start to spin and grab the stuffing. I just use the ratchet and giveit a few turns then go back to my allen key. Sometimes I have to do this several times per limb, so now I only use the screw set for the heads and normal lock nut jointing for the arms and legs.
Hopefully one of these answers helps

Hi Shane,
Thank you very much for that. I may have my terms for the joints all screwed up. Yes, I am referring to the screw set joints that edinburgh sells. I think I will look into to the normal locknut set up and see if that works a little better. So far I have not had a problem with gluing fabric over the hardboard disc, but it is just another step that I wish I could avoid.
Thank you again.

Well Robert I did manage to get them to work for me, but they were such a pain in the butt to work with to be honest. I found using the locknut set and we use Crazy glue gel to glue them. They work the best and I have never had one break on me. I do enjoy the screw set for the necks though I use the longest bolt that Edinburgh sells for some strange reason I don't have a problem with the stuffing when I use them in the neck.
Good luck at the San Diego show, Steve will be there but alas I will be looking after the dog and the new puppy.
I hope I've been able to tell explain our procedure with the joints, if not then look Steve up at the show and pick his brain about it  .
hugs
