Hi, I have some vintage mohair from an old coat.  It has a very nice vintage aged look to it and it's a little flat/matted.  I like that look.  However, after sewing the seams, I don't dare brush it with the metal toothed brush, do I?  If I brush this, it will lose it's look and never lay down the way it does now, right?

edited:  Also, if you place mohair like this in cool water with a bit of detergent, will it disturb the mohair too much?   And what would you use as a cleansing agent?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Jeanne,
I think you are absolutely right about using or rather not using the metal-toothed brush to brush out the seams. For this type of fabric I use my awl to gently pull out the fur without actually changing the character of the fur. Hope this helps you.

Hugs from Holland,
Marianne
