Thanks for posting this about the palms.  Just yesterday, I had been talking about some new plants to put in the yard, and decided on a couple of sago palms.  All of our pets except for one cat all stay either indoors or in the backyard.  I don't want to risk the health of others pets, though.  There are plenty of other plants to choose from, though I'll need to look for something really tough - it looks like it's gonna be a scorcher here this summer.  We've hardly had any winter at all and have been in shorts and t-shirts for a couple of weeks now.

Thanks for the Heads up, Tami - it's always good to be forewarned...............
not that I'm considering sago palms here - Luann's comment that they are all in shorts and t-shirts makes me shiver..........we're expecting MORE snow next week!

Sago Palm is not poisonous to only animals.  It's just plain poisonous.

People often just don't think about the plants they keep around the house.  Even the dieffenbachia and the philodendron can be bad for small children and pets but a lot of people don't even realize it.

I'm a dog walker and also have a dog, some foods that are toxic to dogs are - Onion, Garlic, tomatos, brocolli(large amounts) Hops, Tomatos,  Nutmeg, chocolate, caffeine, grapes, raisins and sultanas. There are more, this is just a few. Most people are fully aware chocolate is highly toxic to dogs, I could not believe it when one of my customers was feeding their dog big chunks of cadburys chocolate and told her it wasn't good for the dog, and was actually toxic to dogs, she was quite shocked to find out. Some of the above foods are more toxic than others, most of us wouldn't think about feeding our pets most of these but its good to be aware of whats best for our four legged family members  bear_thumb
