I have been cleaning/reorganizing (it's about time!) my work room and I came across these photos that I got in Alaska when we visited back in 2006.  The pics are good quality and really show up the bear features.  I thought they might make good references for anyone who wants to go realistic.  And, too, they're just beautiful animals to look at.

Hmmm . . . you might want me to clean more often.  I found my book "Alaska's Bears of the North" with these polar pics.  All photos by Steven Kazlowski.

Sue ann thank you so much for posting these - i am still desperately trying to make a realistic polar bear and while I know there is a difference between them these photos will help a lot.

Sue Ann... WOW!!!  Those really ARE great photos!  Great profiles and they also show how profiles can vary - especially from baby to adult.

Grrrrrrreat photos.  They really show the colour of the bears' coats well.

Sue, these are great photos.  I use photos like these all the time when working on a bear.

Clare there is a book I use, the best book I have ever found, "Bear the Ultimate Artist Reference" by Doug Lindstrand.  It has 150 photos, and 100 sketches.  There is a section devoted to the polar bear.  It was inexpensive, I purchased mine on ebay, but they sell it on Amazon.

These are beautiful photos! Great reference but nice to look at too. I wouldn't mind having the Alaska Grizzly photo on my wall!
