A good friend of mine (who is also a bear maker) just called and told me she has to have open heart surgery sometime soon. Luckily I had a little bear on my desk that I had just finished and was able to get it over to her as a care bear to help shoulder her worry. Do the rest of you do this as well?

Just wondering,    :rose:

ERIN-BEAR.jpgMarion, my when my neighbour's 14yr old daughter was diognosed with thyroid cancer in the spring I wanted to do something.  I made her this personalized bear and she loved it.  Everyone needs a bear to hug in the difficult times.

Very nice of y9u Marion.  Did you know that an act of kindness increases the level of seratonine in the brain?  This is the "feel good" hormone in yor body.  Science has also shown that someone witnessing an act of kindness also has this same increase.

I have given bears to people who I think is in need of a hug who may be too far away for me to hug in 'bearson'.

I gave a fur bear to my daughters friend when her dad died.  Also to one of our neighbors whose husband was killed by a kick-baler (farming accident), and to a few others who were sad and needed a pick me up.  Sometimes  I think I am selfish because it makes me feel so good to do this.....I wonder if I am giving them for my sake too...anyway, it makes me feel really good to give a bear...unexpectedly.

Well I didn't know the technical term for it but I do feel good if I can make someone happy or ease their day in some fashion. Millie is a wonderful person who is always the first to try to help others and not so quick to ask for help so when she asked if I could help her organize her workroom in case she "didn't come home from the hospital" I felt honoured. She's a wonderful friend and a multi-talented artist.

That's really sweet of you all. I'm sure your thoughtfulness is deeply appreciated.

Hmmm....I was at the hospital yesterday. Guess I'll have to give a bear to myself!  bear_grin

Yes, I give bears to family members and close friends when tragedy strikes.  Bears have comforted me, so I hope to give at least a little of that to someone else who needs it.

I like to give Bears to friends that need comforting also and to be able to bring joy   to them, in a small way is neat.
I wish your friend all the very best for her open heart surgery.

Marion, That is very sweet of you! What a wonderful friend.

I LOVE to give bears to those special friends who need a hug and especially to those who I care about but live too far away from to hug in person as Judi said. I'm working on one right now for just that reason!

To be honest...... it's those 'Because I Care' bears that I'm most happiest to part with and give away. It's nice to sell bears to pay the bills but there is something about that act of kindness, putting a smile in someone's heart that really needs it that means so much more.
