So - what are your favourite source and brand of glass eyes?

Best quality, ease of ordering, colours available?

What is best: coloured glass, painted back, colour burned in, or.......?

(I opt for the looped eyes - who has the strongest? Read about eyes breaking here...)

p.s. I know there is one here, but I haven't been able to find it - a chart of basic size suggestions based on the size of the bear?

Cheers and thanks!

I have ordered eyes from a couple of different places and I have to say that I always return to Intercal for their quality.  The only time I have had a problem with eyes breaking is on a larger (14mm) one and it was my fault because of the way I crimped the loop.

If you want eyes that are exotic and out of the ordinary there is a source on-line in Wales and they were shipped to me very quickly and they were very high quality.

Not sure of the best source in North America for eyes, but I suggest you invest in a set of 'position eyes' then you can try different sized eyes in different places - they're basically eyes on a spike, so you can push them in and see them like the real eyes will be

Thanks for this tip about the place in Wales - Look, they even have octopus glass eyes - eeek!

Hmmm.  I never would think to make an octopus but now I know where to get my eyes at if I need them!

Intercal stocks the nicest eyes, the 500 series I think? And there are  coloured ones, or clear ones should you feel the urge to try handpainting ever.  The backs are nice and pointy so you don't have to worry about making an awl hole to set them either, and very uniform in size.
Unless you want to try the realistic, taxidermy eyes, you don't need to look further than Intercal;)

I ALWAYS use English glass eyes, the quality is really good and they match well. They have a loop that's already crimped so there isn't a problem with the glass breaking off the loop. Easy to use.
