Thanks so much Carol, Alison and Beth! Alison, I used the dye we got from Intercal - Cushings Perfection Dyes - it's Nile Green. The way I overdyed it was I only dipped the fabric in the dye long enough for the threads to capture the color, not the backing and rinsed it till the water ran clear - I did this twice - there are a couple spots on the fabric where the backing also dyed but I didn't use that part of the fabric!
I was thinking it would be pretty with lavender, too!
