HELP!!!! 
My old ISP was a snail pace isp 
I don't live where I can get reasonably priced wireless-we don't even have a cell phone cuZ it wont work here. 
Blackberry? We have tons of those- I make jam.
So, you guys who are in the know-----whats a good ISP for dial up?
That is easy to use and doesn't confuse the daylights out of its users?
Earthlink has 3 email things, and you can never tell if the e-mail you send really went because it doesn't show up in the sent bod for days but stays in the outgoing box......I don't get it!!!
pleasepleaseplease somebody help me....
a basic dial up that is faster than molasses in January and easy to use?

MerBear OriginalsI understand fully what you're going through. We too are in the backwoods with poor phone lines. Also no cell phones will work in the area. My connection speed is 24 kb which is extremely slow. Fortunately at work at I hi-speed at my disposal. I have tried different ISP and it's all the same - poor phone lines don't improve. Since I'm in Canada I don't think I'm much help to you although I did use AT & T for awhile successfully.

no idea Dilu being in the Uk. i use Wanadoo (dial up) and it's not bad considering it's dial up 
Posts: 1,153Hey Dilu....I am sorry about your sloooooow connection, but I have the same thing. I feel like I am in the dark ages here. They do not have anything but dial up available in the back 40 where I live.
Anyway, I want to know where you got all those cute little guys dancing around your chat. I love the little guy mubbling to himself and just generally agitated. That's me today. hahahaha!!

Bears-a-Bruin!Dilu, do you use internet explorer? You could try speeding things up by switching off the pictures....go to Tools on the menu bar, choose Internet Options and then choose the 'advanced' tab in the window that pops up. Scroll down and there should a tick next to 'show pictures' in the multimedia section. Untick it and see what happens. You can just switch it back on again when you want to see the photos, of the bears-for-sale, for instance 
Or here's another option: there's a program you can download, called Onspeed, that can speed up dial-up connections (http://www.onspeed.com/en/index.php). It works by degrading the pictures so that they don't take as long to open when you go to a new webpage. You can switch the program on or off, depending on what you need to see. My dad uses it and it does work, though I'm not sure about their claim that it's an alternative to broadband. But it might be worth a try!

Back Road BearsDilu, sounds like you need a new email service to go with that ISP.
What about Yahoo or AOL? I used AOL for the longest time.
We have the ability to get DSL thru our satelite.... I'm suspecting you don't have satelite service on your TV though. Wish I knew what else to offer..........
Someone here will have a good suggestion!
Posts: 8,574We do have satellite- Direct TV with a clear view of the Southern Sky well almost clear-on top of the pump house after 2 trees were cut down. Ouch!
But the last time I looked ISP service through Direct TV was $45.00 a month. I was trying to stay in the $25.oo area, but in truth it has been 6 month or so since I checked out Derect TV. It was before Rupert Murdoch bought it anyway....maybe I should check it out again. Thanks for the reminder, Daphne
Helena, I'll try to do what you suggested, does this mean you can click the pictures back on when your at a sight where you want to see pics?
I can learn how to do that....
It's the e-mails situation that has me more frustrated ....
I'll go look at Direct TV, it may be worth it.....

the Hubs walked in and I suggested we drop the movie chanels and put that towards the satelite ISP and he 
He said the monthly charge is $100 plus you have to but the equipement and thats another large chunk of change.... 
Oh well....
Maybe just going back to aol.....I liked aol he didn't. But he hardly uses the computer anymore.....

I am using AT&T's dialup, and I've been really happy with it. It's very dependable and it offers an "accellerator" program that is optional that is supposed to speed things up. (I can't use it because it conflicted with one of my other programs) I think they are at www.att.net You can do their email through your homepage, or using Outlook Express - whichever you like best. I use Outlook Express 'cause I'm used to it.

I might (fingers crossed) be moving out into "the country", and I looked into cable (there isn't any) and DirecTV. My boyfirend has DSL now, so I looked up the DirecTV's satellite ISP, and it is $59.99 a month 
and only $599.98 for installation !!!!! 
OH well.
We haven't actually put in an offer on the house yet. Our offer is probably going to be too low. I am trying not to get my hopes up too much (not successfully ) I wanna have horses before I get too much older!

Posts: 1,153I have been with msn for 6 years....not that I think they are fanatatic but I can't switch my 'favorites' over to a new carrier. Msn has that fixed (of course)!
I pay 21.95 a month and have 24/7 phone support...which is nice when you get someone that knows what they are talking about.
There have been times when I have reached a 'specialist' (and I do use that loosly, but that is what they called their people sitting in Indonesia in front of a msn manual and say 'can you hold please'...while they quick look up what the manual says about your problem) who have managed to really screw my computer up. Must have read the wrong paragraph to me.
I have msn's accelerator, which is supposed to make me speed along 7 times faster...and I still wait and wait and wait. I cannot imagine what it must be like without the accelerator and I say that jokingly...because I see no difference. I hate dial up. 
Anyway, until we become part of this century, here in the woods, I guess I will have to keep using it...Oh and when my teddy bear sales pick up to where I can spend 60.00 a month for DSL.
Ok, Phew...I FEEL better!!! :clap:
