Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to share a couple pictures of the animals we saw on our trip to get my CT scan done. We had to go to Prince Rupert which is about a 4 hour drive from where we live.
The first animal we saw was a scruffy looking yearling black bear - hadn't quite lost all his winter fur. He was the only bear we got a good picture of, but we also saw a kermode (spirit bear) dashing across the road between traffic, another yearling black bear, and a mother black bear with this years cub - those ones all ran into the bush too fast to get a picture of.
In Prince Rupert, we saw many eagles fairly close up. The cruise ship was in port so there were lots of tourists to be entranced by them.
I hope you enjoy the pictures! :rose:
This is the mother bear retreating into the bush with her baby.... you can't see her well, but the trees are pretty!
Super photos, Melisa! Looks like the yearling could be a brown phase black bear . . . I love that cinnamon color.
Wow - so many eagles - amazing. Thanks much for sharing.
You are very welcome, Susan... I just wish I could have caught the kermode on camera too. He was beautiful!
Hi Melisa
Thanks for sharing your bear photos which are quite fascinating to an Australian. I didn't realise that particular species had such a long tail having only seen live bears at the zoo.
Cheers

wow, Melisa - lucky you! The yearling bear is so cute........but a Kermode - how great is that?????? And the eagles are stunning - thanks so much for sharing the piccies.

Thanks for sharing, it would be great to see just the bears, but those eagles trotting around where we would normally see seagulls? So jealous lol. We have eagles here, but they hide very well
That young bear should do very well this year. Unlike the rest of the US & Canada we have been cooler and wetter than usual and there is a bumper crop of berries! We have a lot of Bald Eagles here, around West Seattle, too. There are so many that they are causing some problems. One small island that used to be used by sea birds nesting has been abandoned because of Bald Eagles.

P.S. Melisa, I hope the CAT scan went well
Thanks for the pictures Melisa. How wonderful it must be to live in a place surrounded by such much wildlife and beauty. Very inspiring I am sure. Living in the middle of a very large city I can only imagine.

So beautiful! What a blessing to be able to see these lovely animals. Ooo, and a kermode bear? Stunning! (I wrote about kermode bears on my blog recently!) We used to see eagles when we lived in the Seattle area--such a treat. And we have black bears here in Colorado Springs, though I am glad I haven't encountered any of them in person.
They are amazing to see! I don't drive much around here... usually too busy with kids and bears. My husband, on the other hand, drives around our community (it is spread out into three small towns and some even smaller villages) and sees a lot of wildlife. He's seen a cougar leap across the road, a lynx and her cub, and many bears. Apparently we have a kermode that is frequently seen about 8 miles from where we live, but I haven't seen him yet. I guess I need to get out more!
