I have just bought an all singing all dancing Janome Sewing Machine -- in a model beloved by quilters I believe.
It is a really small machine, absolutely perfect for travelling with and of course going to classes. It even operates without a foot pedal - NEVER heard of such a thing in a sewing machine before!!!
I have left a deposit on it and will pick it up when I have a free day - really excited about.
I beleive quite a few of you have Janomes - you comments please.
Karon
Congrats, Karon!
I sew all of my bears on an old antique Singer Featherweight machine - it's my tried and true friend!
I would love to hear what you think of the new machine once you've brought it home!
Hugs,
Janice
I love my featherweight too and also my Viking which is a basic model and a work horse. All the bells and whistles intimidated me and aren't necessary for bear making. BUT..... I've been getting into some other sewing projects and would like another machine that does some fancier things. The nearest Viking dealer is nearly 2 hours from me so I won't get another Viking... mine doesn't get cleaned/serviced as often as it should.
Do you know what the model # is of the machine you are buying Karon? And no foot pedal? There must be a knee pedal then? How does it work? Look forward to hearing what you think of it after you've used it a while. Janomes are good machines. I used to work at a quilt shop and a lot of folks brought them to classes so I've worked with quite a few.
I have a Janome machine and I love it. It does everything I sew big bears bodies on it and cloth dolls and quilting too. I have a backup machine which is also a Janome I bought for my daughter but she hasn't got to use it yet lol. I am planning on buying a Janome embroidery machine at Xmas too.
Thanks for your replies. My old work horse is a Bernina 801 - lovely machine but SO heavy, and I don't drive, so if I want to do a weekend course it makes things hard going.
This machine is lovely - small, light weight (for a sewing machine!), does really nice stitches. I was also thinking sbout patchwork in the future and apparently quilters and patchworkers love the machine as it is so easy to take around and does everything. When I went to summer schoool this year most of the patchworkers machines were Janome.
I also wanted it because I have NEVER had a new machine and thought it was about time. Also it can go so S-L-O-W which is great for me  hence total control.
Looking forward to picking it up
Karon
Sorry wanted to add.
No Janice, it doesn't have a knee control - JUST A SWITCH. You have the option of using a foot control if you wish! Yeap I know, that sounds weird but it is so.
I will look to see what model it is.
Oh God,
Old feather brain's got it wrong again - I meant Daphne  .
Congrats on your new Janome. I have had two of the Janomes but this last time I bought a Brothers. I have had a Brothers basic machine for years and love it so this time I bought the Sewing/Embroidering machine. Love the machine. It threads the needle, cuts the thread at the end and yes I can use the foot pedal or the button on the front of the machine to run it.
