bear.jpgHello all,

I've scoured online image galleries and tried to look at anything bear related. This is Teddy. I love this bear more then anything and well, i'm scared of the one day he goes away. i need to ID him!!!

He's around 30 years old give or take a few years. I got him from my sister who got him from our grandmother.

he's a little over a foot tall, has large black stitching on his paws and feet. His legs are kind of attached to his body, hes a weird looking bear. i'll have to snap a better picture of him a little later.

he had a tag on his rump but it was torn off many years ago.

Anyone have any ideas?

OMG where are my manners, please help me! bear_original

No clue, I'm afraid. He's a unique-looking bear with a lot of charm, and with a little TLC, he's probably not going anywhere. Teddy bears can be very durable.  bear_original

We don't have any ideas either.  We figure he was born in the late 60's or early 70's because of his eyes and nose.  (Typical for that period.)

However, we don't have much more to go on.

Maybe you could put up a picture so we can see the rest of him?
We can't tell what shape his body is.  Does he have hair on top of his head?

Our only guess is that he might be a carnival Bear.  If you can get your Bear to pose for another picture or two, maybe we can come up with a better guess for you.

Is the yarn stitching for his hair and claws original?  It looks like it might have been added later.  (?)

What about his fur?  Is his fabric a rough, "tweedy" construction or is he "love worn."  (The Teddy Bear's greatest badge of valor!  bear_laugh )

Does he have the remnants of a "tush tag" or some other kind of label?

I have two guesses as to his origin:

1)  He is a home made Bear, either by a skilled craft person or by a small "home shop" that specializes in plush Bears.  Plastic eyes and noses have been available for some time for people to use in making toys for children.

2)  He is a "Carnival Bear" made as a prize at an amusement park or carnival midway game.  His yarn hair and claws could have been added later on when he became love worn.

Regardless, he looks like a very well-made Bear and, with love and attention, I see no reason why he won't live a long and happy life.  Take care of him and he'll always be there to take care of you!

Just make sure you feed him lots of cookies and milk!  bear_laugh

the hair and yarn stichting look like they belong there, not added later.

thanks for all the help everyone, i wish i could find another bear like him! he's been my buddy for near 30 years!
