I have been wanting to try it, but had a few questions about how to do it and what wax to use since it is going over needle felting? Does it look nice like the thread noses after being waxed and does it hold up?...........thanks in advance!

I had also tried it.... The nose became grey and looked not nice bear_cry . I think it does not go with wax or varnish.
I would also like to know whether it functions....

Oh yes, the fact that is a wonderful nose.
Maybe the nose was too small with my Minis... I try out it, however, maybe in a test nose. The nose is mini....

I wax them all.
I seal first with modge podge.  I give it a few watered down coats, I sand in between.  It makes the nose nice and smooth.  Then I use Roman sculpting wax.  It is a blend of bees wax and some others.  It is very hard and has a very high melting point.  I apply with a brush.  I leave it sit for a long while then I gently heat the tips of a small pair of scissors to move and smooth the wax.  You don't want to melt it only move it. I buff it at the end with a paper bag.

For a long while I used pure bee's wax which also works beautifully.

The noses are hard, I have never had it flake.  But it is wax, it is not as hard as epoxy.

When I first started I used wax like waxing a thread nose and used a dryer to melt it.  I have found that if I seal and sand the nose first I only need one coat of wax to finish it.
