For artists and collectors sponsored by Intercal...your mohair supplier and Johnna's Mohair Store
Hi everyone,
I have been checking on thread and the bear supply company's are so limited on the Mastex thread that I have been buying. Anyone know where else I could get some in more colors.
Thanks,
Bonnie
Hi, Bonnie. Intercal stocks Mastex Upholstery thread. Just scroll down on this link and you'll come to it. http://www.intercaltg.com/catalog/supplies.html
I checked Intercal's page, but 14 of the 25 colors are not available. I keep wondering what is happening. I LOVE Mastex and am hoping the company isn't ceasing production of its upholstery thread or something.
http://www.store.jewelsinfiber.com/nylonmstxv.html This website says that Mastex is no longer available.
I was afraid of that. But I also found this, so perhaps this will help us out if it's similar:

And Edinburgh does have some, but on the very large spools (so I haven't bought any yet):

Thanks for that link, Sue Ann!
Thanks ladies. I was wondering if that was what was going on. I really love that thread. I will have to look into the link that you sent.
Hugs,
Bonnie
Thanks for the update on the Mastex thread and the successor threads. I will have to look over my stash of thread and see what I need. I am gearing up to complete some bears and design some new ones. I have been looking for work, doing temporary work and going to school, the latter for courses that may lead to an accounting degree. Thanks again for the links. Gail S. Thomas
This is the story that I heard. Mastex company closed. The employees got together and decided to reopen the company. They do NOT make the smaller spools of thread only the large cones.
I have switched to Coats (aka Coats & Clark) "Ultra Dee." I bought it at a local upholstery shop. It is nearly identical to the Mastex and I like it. I am not a fan of other Coats and Clark sewing threads, I find them to be crap, but the Ultra Dee is a nice substitute to our missing Mastex.
