Good evening, Teddy Talk members! New member here. I only recently discovered this forum, despite owning a few ooak art teddy bears myself, purchased on eBay.
I have a question for all of you great soft sculpture artists out there. I am a huge, huge Harry Potter fan. I have spent thousands of dollars on Harry Potter items, particularly those darn expensive Tonner dolls. My goal is to turn my future living room or bedroom into a Harry Potter themed room - but as I am 23, I don't want it to be a "kiddy" looking room, if you get my drift. I've already bought some beautiful accents for the room, and I'm constantly looking for new furniture/accessories to add to my collection.
Well, as a longtime lover of plush toys (to my mother's chagrin), I've been pondering having a few creatures commissioned that would fit right in with a Harry Potter room. Things such as mice/rats, tarantulas, and possibly larger creations like an owl or...maaaybe...a small-medium sized (baby) dragon. Maybe a phoenix? A Hippogriff? A basilisk? Who knows?! Of course, I don't want to get too complex, because I'd rather not spend over $250-300 on one piece, so I'm trying to think a little smaller at the moment.
Now, I know many of the artists here make animals other than bears, although not all of you. That's why I'm curious if anyone here feels they would be up to the challenge in the future. If possible, I'd like to at least get a name or two of artists who feel they're up to creating some realistic looking (and possibly creepy ) critters. If there are artists here who feel they could create such things, but are currently swamped with work, commissions, etc, I'd still love to get your name! I'm not necessarily looking to commission someone, say, this week. My first task is simply to find out which artists I can go to with such requests, since I know some of you strictly stick to super cute teddies.
Happy creating!
- Lynn
Hi there & welcome to the forum!
I specialize in whimsical fantasy plush, needle felted creatures and soft sculptures. I'm no stranger to making creatures from movies (done a lot of animals from the Labyrinth) and I'm a huge Potter fan too ^_^
Here are a few of my creatures
You can take a look at my creatures here~ http://www.featherheart.net/

Good old Labyrinth! No one seems to be familiar with Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal these days. So sad. They're classics!
Thank you! I'll be sure to check out your website tomorrow. For now...bedtime.
It's also worth having a look at Lisa Page's website, she specialises in animals. I comissioned a Chinchilla from her and I love it to pieces -

I suppose it depends what style you want. Lisas designs are really cute
Hi and welcome to the forum, I am only just going in the direction of realistic creatures with my style of bears. Since starting making bears years ago I wanted to go into ultra-realistic animals. I'm currently making a double-neck jointed polar bear and a fully armatured lion cub who is meant to be as realistic as I can possibly make. I also love dragons and would love to have a go at one one day.
However the one thing that stood out to me was your mention of a hypogriff. I have already made a custom ordered hypogriff (actually it was more of a griffon) for a lady a little while ago. It is not featured on my website as yet as it was a very specific custom order and OOAK. I am however working on another similar creation to put on my website. He's described with only minor hints on my "coming soon" page. I am currently swamped with custom orders for Christmas gifts etc but when you're thinking of ordering some pieces I'd be very interested in making you something.
Most of my bears/animals/creatures are custom orders, they're what I make the most of. I design lots of pieces for companies to use as their logos and mascots etc, I design them from the pattern up with all the color specifications etc that the customer is looking for.
I love the HP books and movies too however I don't have much interest in making a spider lol (although I do know somewhere you can get one immediately that's probably the most realistic you'll find lol) or many other "Scary" pieces as I like my creatures to be as endearing as possible in their own way. I am very interested in dragons and griffons and hypogriffs though so I'd love to give making one of any of them a go. I've always wanted to make a dragon, so you may see one on my website next year some time
Anyway that's enough from me, I just thought it was worth mentioning I love ultra realistic fantasy creatures. Feel free to contact me whenever you'd like if you're interested in my creations.
My website is here by the way - http://gjoyfulbears.com/main.html
It is a work in progress though and does not carry as many photos of as many of my bears and creatures as I would like, so keep checking back.
Hello from Austria - as here you are talking about dragons, I just wanted you to remember to have a look also at my website and my FB-site, where you can find dragons and I also created a unicorn and there will come some more to life.
So please feel free to have a little walk there: http://www.mazzitelli.at and even there http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= … cd2cd6337c
hope to hear from you - have so many dragon-hugs from Austria
Welcome to Teddy talk! I am not currently taking custom orders, but I do have a baby Phoenix and a rat in the works. If you would like to see them so far let me know and I wll post some work in progress pictures. I love Harry Potter too!
