Past Time BearsAh . . . Shantell, I know what you mean trying to separate your daughter's birthday from Christmas. My daughter Pam's birthday is Dec. 18th, and she is adamant about keeping the two dates separate!! I can't wrap her b'day gifts in Christmas paper or give her something big (translate that expensive) to cover both b'day and Christmas. It has been difficult over the years to communicate that to extended family members! Sigh!

I have to jump in here on this one.... It's our first year in a our new house... our living room, which is sort of the centraly located room in this house happens to have a 12 foot ceiling. On Sunday, I sent my hubby and the two youngest out to buy a tree... we've had real trees, artificial trees-- either is fine with me, and they each have their goods and bads... They took the mini van, wutch to me means that they are comming back with something in a box or strapped to the roof... NO. They come home empty handed and explain to me that the tree is being delivered Monday at 10am. Well, in my mind, that's a huge waste of money, but okay.... Monday arrives, and I am greeted by four men carrying a 12 and 1/2 foot tall Christmas tree. I can not tell you the shock I was in... the mixed emotions that accompanied this new arrival to the house! I am still in a bit of shock tobe honest. I went to the store and purchased an additional 15 boxes of lights. I strung them up myself, it took the better part of 6 hours. I don't know whether to laugh cry 
be raging mad 
or to think this is the most wonderfully sweet thing my husband has ever done. 
We have no ornaments on it yet... just the 1700 lights... and the lader, which I had to climb 10 feet into the air on is in the pic... (sorry about that) I have no idea what we are going to do with the furniture. Our coffee table doesn't even fit into the room at this point. I thought the height was crazy, but this tree is now taking up a full 1/3 of the floor space in the living room. We don't even have any lamps in there yet.... I am just in shock still... can you tell?
the kids think it's wonderful... they think they are in their very own version of the Nutcracker.... It smells like we have spilled a gallon of Pine Sol on the carpet! The mess of needles the delivery men made just getting it in actually broke the heavy duty shop vac. And I have no idea how we are going to get it OUT or clean up the mess afterward..... Can you tell I'm still in a bit of shock! Oh, please tell me that someone elses hubby has done this?

It looks beautiful, really it does. But I can't imagine the cost of lighting it ( 15 boxes of lights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and the cost of buyiing the decorations.

But still, it's tough with men. If you don't appreciate their efforts, chances are they will never try again. At least that's the way mine is.
Maybe, altough this is tough, put a tiny tree somewhere else in the house, so when you need to feel cozy and grounded.
Just be thankfull the tree isnt fake and you have to use it year and year. Imagine that....................
Past Time BearsOh my . . . . . . . . . I think it looks gorgeous with just the lights, Kim! Why don't you skip ornaments this year?? Yes, we will all be there in early January to help clean up the needles and chop up the tree. You'll have a lot of firewood out of it!!

Seriously, I'm with Sue Ann... skip the ornaments. If you feel the need to add some color or interest (as if a 12+ foot tall tree isn't interesting enough!) tie some bows of pretty ribbon on the branches. All the craft stores have their Christmas ribbon on sale.
Last year was out first year in our new house. We always get a real tree and my hubby has a problem with spacial relations. Having said that, we bought THREE (3) trees before we had one that fit in the house. In the end we liked the first one best so moved all the furniture around to accomodate it and chopped about a foot off the bottom of it so we could get the star on top! What did we do with the other two you ask? Well, our house was brand new and we didn't have any landscaping done the year it was built so no bushes to put christmas lights on. So, the trees, in stands, were strategically placed in our front yard with lights on them!
(Now, for the record, I kept trying to tell Hubby that the first tree was just too tall! He got the second one by himself.... it was soooooo FAT! The third one I picked out and he didn't like because it was too skinny! Sounding like goldilocks and the three bears (trees) here!)
This year I took the tape measure with us just in case........ the first tree, though fat still, does fit, smells wonderful and looks great. (I know... pictures are coming...)

Kim, I love your huge tree! But I don't envy you putting up all those lights. 
I love big trees although I've never had one that big. My mom always gets a 9 to 9 1/2 foot tree. She loves Christmas ornaments. Plus, she has 2 other trees - an angel one and a sports one (we're big football and basketball fans in my family). I have a teddy bear tree in addition to our regular tree.

Here are some pics of Christmas at my house. I know I'm a little late getting mine posted. One is our tree with our Disney monorail set. We love Disneyworld and go a lot. I forgot to take a picture of some of the Disney buildings on the left side of the tree. Oops. Another is my beartivity scene.

Just kidding... But yeah, you guys really have some BEAUTIFUL decorations throughout your house!!! I wish the same could be said for ours... We have our tree and our outside... No hearth or splendidly decorated mirror (which, by the way I think looks just GORGEOUS!!!) I'll post pics in a few once I get them taken... Don't anyone laugh....

We drove around our neighborhood the other night looking at Christmas lights, and my daughter complained the whole time that she wanted to go home.... So I called her a grinch and told her she was getting coal in her stocking...

I don't celebrate X'mas here in Malaysia coz my parents are Buddhists while i am the only Christian in the family. So no X'mas decoration to share with you. 
Since I am a Malaysian Chinese, we celebrate Chinese New Year, which falls somewhere on 29th January 2006....our decoration is mostly RED!! hee hee
Have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!! with LOTS OF LOVE, PRESENTS (of course hee hee), PEACE AND JOY. And a WONDERFUL NEW YEAR 2006 to ALL

Off this morning to go into the woods and cut our tree....maybe I'll get pics posted later this week.....could be that we will wait until our son visits to put it up.....

Yikes now I do feel so guilty, this is the first Christmas that I am not putting up any Christmas things as we are spending the period with my son in Cape Town. He has bought a Christmas Tree for his house ( his very first one and has done the decorations on his own- so not sure what to expect)
When I think of Christmas , I see a large living tree, with lights twinklin, just like Kim's, lots of snow, everyone inside, laughter, and music. Except that here in South Africa, it is normally a hot day, we tend to have the traditional hot dinner, but land up around the swimming pool.
This year we will be with my sister for lunch, she will prepare lunch, which will be delicious as she loves cooking. Good -bye waistline.Then we will sit back and watch the sea, or perhaps go for a walk on the beach as she lives across the road from it.
God willing, next year will be very different as then the sprog will be about 5 months old so it will be the biggest Christmas time ever, but I am getting carried away now.

Better late than never!!Compared to all yor houses we are very tackyyy!!All the lovely ornaments go away and out comes what some may see as junk.I love decorations from the 4o's through to the 60's .Mostly chennile and glitter.
These pictures are of two of our five trees!!!We have a seven foot traditional one in the lounge with lovely things on it but I love these two.The white one is a vintage 60,s tree with shiny brite baubles ,glass birds and blown glass ornaments on it.I have round it honeycomb santa's and giant Chrismas scraps form when I was wee.I also collect flock and velvet reindeer.I have this tree by my bed and sleep with the lights on.This tree takes me back to the magical Christmas's I had as a child.
The green one is a forties tree that I won en ebay.It has even older birds and bobbles on it including my grans old santa in chennille and fir cone.At the bottom I have old bottle brush trees and a wonderful giraffe and moose .I also have a chad valley bank in the shape of a book from the fortiesForties stuff is getting very hard to afford so I may have to collect seventies next!!!
I have really enjoyed looking at everyone's decorations. They are all so unique and special. We finally got the tree and living room decorated so here are my pictures to share. The last one has all Teddy Bear ornaments.
