Hellooooo girlywirlies and guys
I am going quietly nuts - round the twist - ga ga - doolally and all the other euphemisms for MAD!
I started designing a full size cat pattern at least 18 months ago but had to keep putting it on hold because of having other beary things to do. So, in my infinite wisdom i decided to finally get on with it and was determined to get it finished in time for Christmas - HAH! what an idiot.
I keep trying to fit it in between xmas shopping, wrapping pressies, baking mince pies and sausage rolls, cleaning the house so guests don't think i'm clatty and bathing two very smelly old cats who are indeed, clatty!!!
How hard is it to make a cat i asked myself? Bloomin hard is the answer - i just can't get the right expression. If i put the eyes in one position he looks like the devil incarnate, if i move them he looks all cutesy which is'nt quite the look i'm after and i think the ears are going to finally finish me off - i expect to be carted off to the funny farm any day now
I think that the eyes i bought for him are fabulous but they are taxidermy glass eyes and they are just sooo realistic that when they're sitting on my work table they give me the willies "Here's looking at you kid" they seem to say
O well, i just wanted to talk about it - nothing very exciting i'm afraid
just wish i could get the head sorted then i could relax and get on with the body which i can't wait to do as i'm going to use armature for the first time - Lord knows what it'll look like hee hee hee. I can just imagine a big fat cat with legs akimbo!
Penny - off for a catnap
Keep at it Penny. Your creations are always great and I'm sure you'll make it work out.
I can imagine it would be hard. I wouldnt even know where to begin. Only advice I have is to look at lots of picture of cats.
But PLEASE...............show us when you're done!
Yeah i will do Heather - but you knew i was going to say that did'nt you? he he
Penny
Penny, Penny.. you always make me smile…. I am sure it will turn out to be a wonderful creation! And if you make more in the future, you will wonder what was so hard the first time around…. Sounds like you are trying to do too much at once, I am the same way LOL…. I am constantly multi-tasking! Keep at it Pen!!!
Just keep at it. But if you ARE going to go nuts .... never, never go quietly!
Penny, you really tickle my funny bone.
I can't imagine your cat turning out anything less than fabulous. hang in there!
smiles,
oh dear. i hope you can get your cat eyes placed nicely. eyes are always the hard part especially when they look real.. good luck !! we wanna see pics if/when you get it finished
Yes don't worry i shall post pics even if it all goes terribly terribly wrong - at least you'll be able to have a good laugh
It's still driving me batty - so i have walked away from it before i chuck it out the window which means i would only have go outside and drag it back in again when i'd cooled down a bit
Penny - cats are evil
Penny,
I saw one of Mary Halstad's cats on ebay several years ago and have been trying to design one in my mind ever since then. You might want to check Mary's website or Lisa Pay's website to see how they place the eyes and ears on their cats. It might just give you what you need.
Donna
He, he...Penny...you tickel me funny bone. Get on with the cat ! If he turns out evil then make the rest of him evil...if he turns out wacky then do him up as wacky...and if hes really funny make him a charmer...you can always make another too...may be that you will be making all kinds of cats on a regular basis...then you will go to the funny farm..eh ? ..........Winney
he he he
Penny,
I LOVE cats!!!! Truly I do, but I must admit that I have chucked a few cat patterns in the ol' garbage! I've never had one turn out right for me....they can be so hard to get the way you want them. I'm with Winney on this one... just let the little guy develop as he wishes and make the most of it! Certainly cats have a LOAD of personality traits that cen be played up to suit the face that emerges!
Beary truly yours,
Kim Basta
oooooo an eeeeevil cat Winney - what a neat idea but do you think anyone would want to adopt it? I might get stuck with it and those taxidermy eyes will be staring at me forever
 spooky!
Donna, Mary Halstad makes soooperb pussies and i am a big fan of her work, wish i could afford to buy one, but i'm after a sort of different look. I can't quite get the vision out of my head onto the cats face yet so i'm not going to hurry it. I have waited nearly 2 years to actually get on with this pattern so i guess i can wait a bit longer.
Designing the head pattern was pretty easy but the body was a nightmare - i don't want it to be jointed as i would like it to be very soft and cuddly and a bit floppy like the Ragdoll cats although it will have armature so it can be posed.
sigh sigh sigh - why do i bother i ask myself. I even wake up in the middle of the night with a bright idea of how i want it to look and then go back to sleep and can't remember what i dreamt of!!!
Penny
Going by all your other creations I know he will turn out absolutely gorgeous.
Can't wait to see him finished....so enough of those catnaps Penny off you go back to work!!
Yes Boss
Penny, when its meant to happen it'll happen...just go with the flow and enjoy the ride....or call the men in their little white coats.
Hee, hee, ha, ha . . . Penny, you're a hoot! Have you taken a look at Karen Lyons' cats? Don't know if you're going for that much of a realistic look, but maybe they can give you some ideas. If you don't get it right the first time around . . . there's always a second, third, fourth, etc.
good luck with your puddycat Penny - looking forward to seeing him!
Penny, I can really relate right now... I'm going positively nuts m'self with a new design. Although its nothing as ambitious as a cat. Let me know if you're head down Loopy Lane . I can join you and we can babble on about designs, and funny nosed bears and evil eyed cats
Debbie - i may just take you up on that offer of company to the loonybin via loony lane  i'm still stuck with these cats eyes staring at me from my work table. It seems the more i try to ignore them the more they follow my every move and i swear i saw one of them wink this morning!
I decided to give the cat a name even though he only consists of an eyeless, noseless, mouthless head at the moment as i thought that maybe this would kinda help me bring him to life and tame him!
So he is going to be called Mr. Baggins - his first name may be Fatso as i'm planning a big tum (not for me, him - i've already got one) based on one of my own old fat cats 'Figaro' - i love the way it sort of swings gently from side to side when he walks. Bless him!
Ho Hum Diddly Dum - seems my pussums is at a standstill at the moment but i have managed to make lids for the eyes which is something i suppose - the lids may make them look a little less like something from a horror film and a little more like a pussycat - here's hoping
Penny
I'm having total fits about an entirely new pattern, of an entirely new critter, I'm developing, too, Penny, so I can totally relate.
I think we should resolve this over truffles and wine.
Wanna join me?
ooooooooooo truffles AND wine Shelli - how decadant
YES PLEASE SHELLI
Penny - yum yum feel peckish now
