I think the picture has been overworked.  The lighting looks like it was faked with Photoshop and it looks like the somebody went to town with the "vibrancy" controls.

It's still a nice photo but they made a "10" into a "9" by messing with it too much.

Could it have been a nighttime photo using a flash?

Could be.  The shadows make it look like the light is coming from the top, left at an angle.  Might have been a flash gun held off to the side.
Look at the upper left quadrant of the picture it's all dark.  It still looks like the image was tweaked after it was taken.

It's still a nice picture and the bunny is as cute as can be but this over manipulated look just takes away from it.

Peter takes some really awesome pictures of his Bears.  Mostly using natural light as far as I can tell.
If the person who took this bunny's picture had done it the way Peter does, it would have been a perfect ten.
