Hey there
Does anyone know what stitch you use when sewing on the bear ears, I found on you tube to ladder stitch the straight edge closed first then stitch this to the bear but, what stitch, I have long fur so its hard to see where your going.
appreciate any help

You can use the ladder stitch to attache them to the head, too. First the front edge, and then the back - or vice versa. That makes the ear quite secure.
With long fur, you can sometimes part it in a line where you want the ear to go. Put colored pins in place where you want each corner of the ear and the middle of the ear to go. Then as you stitch, you have something to follow. (And as with the ladder stitch, you don't need to tighten up the stitches every time. Get four or five stitches where you want them, and then pull them tight.)
Good luck!
Becky
I still use a ladder stitch to stitch on the ears. It is true it's hard to see where you are going on long piles...I place pins in where the ears will go and stitch around them removing as I sew.
thank you girls for your resopnse on ears I will have a go
cheers

hey Becky
how do you do a ladder stitch first front then back?
I am a bit confused as when you sew up the bear when finished you do stitch one side then the other then pull in stitches, so how do you do front then back
had a go but not sure imdoing it right
cheers

When I mentioned the front and back of the ear, I knew it might be confusing, but I think you've got what I meant--after you close the bottom of the ear, you have a front and a back "side" (at the bottom of the ear) to attach to the head.
After I attach the front and pull the stitches tight, I attach the back side by flopping the ear forward so that I can see the back side of the bottom ear-edge and place my stitch. The sewing gets a bit more difficult as you go, but by then the ear is pretty much where you want it. When you finish, you can pull everything nice and tight and "bury the knot" into the fabric and stuffing a few times to secure it.
Then you just need to practice dozens of times. (I am still thrilled if I can attach both ears exactly where I want them on the first try.)
