Hello!
I know based on the previous topic that many of you are probably upset with people asking for help identifying bears, but I promise to be courteous and respond if anyone has any information to help!
I know this bear is in no way an antique, but it has a very special significance for my family, and was stolen by some kids pulling a prank. It meant a lot to my father, and we are trying to hunt down another to remind him.
I know it was purchased in the early 1980's when my brother was born, and we feel we are getting close when searching for Dakin 1980's bears, except all of those show "leather" (or suede) feet AND ears, and ours only had that different fabric on the feet. My only other guess was Gund, but I could be entirely off.
We sincerely appreciate any time or tips that you may have! If there is another spot to post this that is more appropriate, please let me know. Thank you!!
Hello,
It's not that we don't like people asking for idents on their bears, in fact it's entertaining and often informative for us to dig up such info....what upsets some of us are the people who make a post, then go silent....not only is that a gesture of ingratitude, but we don't even know if they came back to read the info we went to the trouble of providing.
That said, he does look like an old dakin, I do have a suggestion.....if you fail to find one exactly like yours (and he's truly important enough to go to the trouble and $$) get a couple of the leather eared ones on ebay- you can then send them to a bear artist that specializes in repair and restoration, who can use the ear backings from one bear as ear linings for the second, giving you an exact replica.
hope that helps!
I think Gund may be right. The center-seam head and stubby arms look much like this one that sold on ebay (scroll down a bit to get to the original listing and photos): http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-GUND-13 … 7675.l2557
Based on the first bear, I searched for "vintage gund bearspot bear," and found a similar bear for sale now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-VINTAGE-GU … 1185021538
Good luck in your search!
Becky
Well, BlackmoonBear, I don't think they're coming back. (I do think I identified the bear, though, and it was kind of fun.)

I absolutely came back!! Oh my goodness, thank you so much! dangerbears, I believe that is the exact one we were looking for. Dakin seemed like it was so close, but when I clicked on that link I sort of screamed a little. It was great
I am going to continue to hunt around to see if I can find one, but I'm assuming any that I come across will be going for the $100 price point.
Thank you,
thank you,
thank you!!!

Also, thank you for the idea on getting the leather removed, I would have never thought about that. I will hunt around, and see what I can find. Thank
Yay! It's good to see you again, and I'm glad you know what to hunt for now. I was a bit surprised at the price, but others must also feel nostalgic about the Bearspot bear. I hope you find a good one!
