Hello, I belive this to be a steiff bear as it was with other steiff bears. However it does not have the tag or button on ear or any other identification. The bear has some small rips and from that I can see that the bear has a wood chip like filling that the older steiff bears used. The bear measures 19 inches tall. The legs measure 7 inches long, the torso measures 9 inches, the arms measure 6 inches. The head measures 4-1/2 inches tall. Has some of the older steiff characteristics while missing others so not sure exactly on maker. Any help identifying or pricing this bear would be greatly appreciated.
Well, he's definitely not a Steiff. He could be from Ideal, or he might fall under the category, "American stick bear" (try an Internet search). Since there are also condition issues, he probably doesn't have a lot of monetary value. Still, as a mohair bear from the 1930s or 1940s, he might fetch $50 to $75 on eBay-- maybe more. There are people who really like this kind of bear.

She has an Ideal teddy bear in that column, and could tell you if this one is in fact from the Ideal company, in which case he'd be worth more.
