Hi all.  I am new to the teddy bear collecting world.

I recently bought some steiff bears and need some help in identifying two of them.

The first is a rabbit. I believe woven fur but could be mohair. It has a small patch of black hair. Otherwise it's mostly grey. It is approximately 25cm long. Button in ear is brass and 8-9mm wide. The other one is a lion cub? Approximately 50cm head to tail. Nickle button in ear that is about 5mm wide.Does anyone have any info on these two? Iwant to keep them - just too pretty to sell, but want to know what it is I'm keeping

Hello!

Lovely animals.   Your best bet would be to contact Steiffgal (google for her website, and there you will find her contact information.).  She would never put a value on them, but she can tell you what they are!

(She recently helped me help me un-Steiff what I thought was a Steiff bear, but that is a story for another day.)

I hope this helps.

Thanks EJ.

I'll go and look her up.

Will report back here as I get news...

Heard back from Steiffgal. Apparently the animal I thought was a rabbit is actually a donkey :embarrassed:
And the other one I wasn't certain about is a puma. The donkey is apparently the sleeping donkey manufactured by steiff from 1991-95.

I believe (though not confirmed by Steiffgal) that the other is the jolly puma, manufactured in the mid 70s.

thanks again for the help!

Yep, the Jolly Puma in my Steiff sortiment book agrees with you - stock number 3478/50 made from 1973-1981 (woven synthetic fur).
