Rufnut Teddy'sI purchased a packet of Dylon cold water fabric dye a few months ago and was told I could dye Mohair and carded wool with it, after reading the packaging and instructions I am a little concerned, it says that it should be used for natural fiber fabrics, use with cotton, linen, viscose rayon, silk, wool and polyster cotton blends.
Has anyone ever used Dylon to dye Mohair?
How successful was it?
Any comments, feedback appreciated. Thanks
Patsy Lake BearsI have used Dylon Karen, and got great results...mohair is a natural fiber, just be sure you keep the the directions ..I didn't read them properly the first time I used it and put too much water in so it was a very weak effort ... but it looked OK... I now read the instructions with care

Gatehouse GalleryYep, I've used it too. I buy it from spotlight when they have it on special. I recently did a pretty aqua and dyed the felt for the pawpads at the same time and it looks great. I also used a mix of cafeaulait and sahara gold to make a gold afghan hound.

Posts: 1,153Oh the colors sound marvelous. I can't find all those colors in Rit Dye, here in the states. I really like to dye my mohairs and mess around with color.
I just can't seem to find any interesting colors except Black, Tan and Brown....whoppee, that really gives me lots of options! :dance:
Does anyone have an on-line supplier?

Past Time BearsI have several boxes of Dylon Cold Water Dye and was eager to try them. (Got them on a closeout sale at one of our chain craft stores here - Hobby Lobby or Michael's.) When I was reading the instruction sheet, there was a paragraph of things NOT to dye and mohair and angora were listed. So I have all this Dylon dye that I'm afraid to use - it doesn't say why not to use it on mohair/angora, but just DON'T. Maybe it's too harsh?? Anyway, Nancy, the box says that it is distributed by Prym-Dritz Corporation in Spartanburg, SC, so you might Google "Dylon Dye", or "Prym-Dritz", or "cold water dye", or something similar.

Patsy Lake BearsI use the hot water dylon and fix it with salt or vinegar .. I then rinse it out untill it runs clear and dry in the dryer I must admit I tried it on a scrap first up but it was fine...you can get a fixer here for it but I have not used that
