Julia!!!! Are you kidding?? He has an horrible head! and look at his feet: look like old chinese women' ones!
his arms and legs are too slim: not any muscle there! In addition, the fabric was too fragil: this is boiled wool which is not dense enough for the weight of the bear...

Beary hugs,
Sophie.

NO Sophie, he is too good. Look at that lovely embroidered nose. My Charles is still the worst first bear I have come across. I cut holes in the fabric for his eyes. And then had to sew the holes up because they were to big bear_grin  bear_grin  bear_grin hahahahahahhahahahhahahahha his legs are up under his armpitshahahahahahah must admit the feet on your Oscar are a tad on the small side, but my Charles is lucky he has feethahahahahah bear_grin   Matilda bear_grin

pomeroy.jpgivor.jpgorangeblob.jpgHmmn.  Howsabout - 'Orange Blob Bear' ... he was from a kiddies pattern sold through a local toyshop.

Then there was 'Ivor' ... he was a kit.

I can't remember my very first design - I will hunt through my files!

Ah!  Now I remember!  The yellow guy -  Pomeroy, he was about the third I designed ... the first couple went to my mum and my niece and unfortunately (!) I don't have any pics!

I don't know Matilda, I kind of like your little guy, his eyes are the same color as his spots and it gives him a whimsical slightly goofy look.  I don't think you should be so hard on the poor guy......He's a sweet heart, and his eyes say he sees alot more than he lets on

And Sophie, Oscar looks anime and he also has a fun look to him.

Dont be so hard on yourselves ladies, these are fun, sweet and very loveable bears!

Oh Paula- Orange Blob Bear......He reminded me of being a Brownie....before being a Girl Scout.....maybe you have them in England too-  put a little brownie uniform, on him and the little brwon beanie we used to wear and call him a girl......and maybe he could have an extra big pocket for that song we had to sing

I have something in my pocket

That belongs across my face

I keep it very close to me

In a most convient place

I'm sure you'll never guess it

If you guess a long long while,

so

I'll take it out and put it on

Its a great big brownie smile!

ok silly

Hahahaha,
Those all look great, wait till I post my first one, it a cheaper bear kit I bought last week.
Right now he is stuffed & sewn up, have not put in the eyes yet.
I think he turned out ok , except the fur that came with the kit
was kinda thin & sparse, and it was hard trying to hide all the seams.
I'm hoping it won't be as noticeable with better quality thicker fur? ....LOL bear_grin

edbrg-willy.jpgI've posted him before, but I kinda like my 1st one.
I will always keep him. He was from a kit.

1st-Bear.jpgmy daughter has my first one.  I'll have to get a photo again.
Bad fur, poor sewing. Fur sitting wrong, fur trimmed wrong..... but when i offered to fix her up for my daughter she told me off!!  Couldn't embroider a nose. Ears set wrong, arms in wrong spot.  head not stuffed enough...wil I go on!!

LOL oooh how far we have all come.. yes, I'm able to say that, why be dishonest about it.  Having said that, none of the bears are as horrible as you all make out! LOL  I will take a photo of my first bear and show you all bear_original  Like Heather, I'm kinda proud of the big guy!

haahahahahahhha Silly Dilly your gorgeous!!!!!!!hahahah luv the song. I have to write it out to keep.

What a lovely turn out of funny wee bears. As Danni said'havent we come along way'.

My charles gets the most hugs out of every bear that I've made. His stuffing is breaking through the seams and arm fell off(they are plastic safety disks)  so I sewed it back on. When my brothers teenage kids visit they want  to know where he is so they can give him a cuddle.ahahahahah

And like all of your first bears with their wonky ears & crooked eyes arent they just the most cutest ones.
I knew not a thing about sewing when I made charles. I didnt even know enough to give him a back stitch hahahahahahahhahahhpoor wee baby. But not once have I been embarrassed by my ineptitude. I just didnt have the heart to hide him away. He's stuffed with toyfill so he's really soft.

Keep them coming I just love looking at these little wonders.        Matilda

I just read back through the posts having another gander at the bears and...........one thing I have noticed, WE  all have our first. Some of you may have hidden them (erin!) but they are still there. hahah
We all must be greadfully sentimental hahahahahah

Matilda..Thats is such a goofy guy..he has character...people love character bears .

The only thing I'd do is to suck in his hips with some strong double thread to make the legs hug tighter to his " broad hips" .

Love his cheeta dots...hey, why not give him a  grass skirt, some big old bright wooden color beads with head hunter pendant.... then give him a wonderful feather type head dress   ...sort of the  head lemure guy in Madagascar...can't you all just see it ??? OH yes, and give him a totum spear to show whos boss....Winney

Winney your so funny. and sweet. Charles was my very first ever bear. There's just something about first ever bears, 'you dont fix 'im'  hahahahah you just luv 'em and laugh at 'em hahahah

Heather the bear in the back ground is Leo. He is the needle felted bear I made in Judi's workshop. I posted him again just recently, I think in the needle felting section. I'll have a look.

Matilda bear_thumb        Yep, he's in needle feltind titled 'look what I did" by me. OK possum.

My-first-bear.jpgAh, my dear friends, i would like you to have a look at my first and third bears.
I like very much Bonjour, my first one: i made it using a kit from a french artist (Laurence Veron) and added some features like mouth, paw pads feet pads, claws, clothes...
The third one is very .... hummm: well just see by yourlseves. I named him Ugly.

Actually if you pop a top hat on him, a jacket with tails, a fancy walking stick and a monocle I think you would have a pompous but lovely teddy bear.

Thanks for sharing your pics.  Your first bears are nice.  It's funny that artists are so critical of themselves sometimes when collectors and others love different stuff and love ones that the artists think they shouldn't.   bear_original
